In case no one heard:
February 22, 2007 - Originally scheduled for release on March 6, 2K Sports announced today that Major League Baseball 2K7 is now coming a week earlier. MLB 2K7 has gone gold and will be in stores on February 27 for PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox and Xbox 360.

MLB 2K7 features revamped A.I., Signature Style animations and the voices of broadcasters Jon Miller and Joe Morgan

This game truely looks amazing and I can't wait till Tuesday. If you haven't heard anything about it, read on!.

It's a whole new ballgame! Major League Baseball 2K7 redefines the pure baseball video game experience with true, next-gen details, all-new throwing mechanics and a revolutionary presentation system. Fielder positioning, relay and cutoff A.I. has been redesigned to allow for better, more authentic Major League defensive play. Defensive alignments are now based on who is at the plate.

The Dynamic Throwing System is a responsive throwing mechanics coupled with unique animations for infield, outfield and situational throws. On the stats side, Inside Edge data is now tied into control at the plate. Playing into your pitcher's or hitter's strengths will now reward you with a boost in hitting power.

And with the power of next-generation consoles, everything that you see about the players -- faces, body type, accessories, uniforms and hats -- match their real-world counterparts down to the minutest details.

Everything from a player's batting rituals at the plate to facial expressions have been captured in this year's game, making them seem like their real-life counterparts. Player accessories have also been personalized as well, so if an athlete wears things like baggy pants, wrist bands or a certain type of glove, they'll be properly represented. Player models have also been improved to with accurate physiques for each athlete. No longer are there simply tall or stocky character models; larger players like Bartolo Colon or C.C. Sabathia will actually have guts in the game (maybe now they'll actually hit a treadmill -- although I'm not holding my breath).

Fans of the 2K series will also pick up on some of the other touches that have been included to make the game seem much more natural or vibrant. For one thing, players will notice pitchers sent out to bullpens to warm up during a game. Umpires will have their own personality, which can affect their tolerance towards a call that a player may want to argue. Some may be willing to take a little jawing, while others will be quick to start tossing players out of the game.

You'll notice different camera angles that frame the action from the mound to the plate. In particular, we were impressed by the Dirt Cam and Grass Cam, which presented sharp details of on-field action. This is especially cool when you're watching a replay of baserunning, which has received a facelift. No longer will you see large numbers in the corners of the screen to represent a base. Now, you'll find a runner moving on the screen via a transparent overlay, with bases appearing as he nears them. These technical improvements will be supported with a stronger presence from the commentary crew. Jeanne Zelasko and Steve Physioc will have a much more in-depth presentation before the start of games, and Jon Miller and Joe Morgan will once again anchor the solid play-by-play for each game.

Other features from the previous game, like Franchise mode and GM Career mode, have gotten minor tweaks as well. For instance, Franchise mode has received a visual makeover (which kind of looks like "Franchise for Windows"), with pulldown menus and information broken out in a more visually segmented way. GM Career mode, on the other hand, now has a low level economic system, where players will set ticket prices and handle other promotional aspects of a club. Plus, for those GMs that want to take on competition, online league play will be available for players to test their skills.

And now on to some eye candy:

Ok, who else looked real close to see if they could find dirt on Kenny Rogers's hand?

Honestly, I think I'll buy this game. I used buy MVP until they lost the right to do a MLB game. Last year I bought MLB: The Show but just couldn't get into it. So I think I'll try 2k7.

I did lol. I think 2K makes the best sports games out there, any sport. I had last years and it had its flaws, but was still fun. They overhauled that game completly to make this one, so I can't wait, to say the least.

MLB the Show is due out soon as well. I'll buy that first. I have yet to be very impressed with 2K. I am STILL playing the Show. LOVE it. I just bought my PS3 and have it hooked up via HDMI to a 50" Plasma. BOY does it look good. I even tested out the new Blue Ray DVD in the PS3 with a copy of Superman Returns. My jaw dropped on a few occasions the clarity was so good.

I've had a 360 since the day before launch and have been waiting for a good baseball game for it ever since. I didn't buy 2k6 last year and played "The Show" to death. I just bought a PS3 tonight as well. 2k7 looks like it's going to be a good one and "The Show" for ps3 drops in April along with Spirits 4 from Japan.

It looks like we are going to have 3 excellent baseball games this season instead of just one from last year. Here's a shot of Brandon Phillips from 2k7:

Okay, so I haven't played baseball video games since the EA Sports game for the PS1 back in 1999, which oddly enough featured David Weathers as a pitcher for the Reds. Now that I have a 360, what is the best baseball game. Is it MLB 2k7 or is there some other game to be released?

Well, if you choose PS3 your options are more open. The Show and 2K7 are both available for it. 2K7 is your only choice for 360.

You also get a free 2 week trial to MLB.TV when you purchase the game.

I got it yesterday and attempted a to start a career league with a fantasy draft. I stopped because I couldn't make up my mind on which way I wanted to go (i.e. pitching, hitting, balance). Plus the Reds only have ~ $36 mil available to draft a team which is too low. Any player worth a lick is too expensive.

Yeah, the injury roster management is horrible. It would be nice if you could fix the CPU teams lineups, etc in franchise mode but you can't.

Also, player progression is dissapointing yet again.

From what I can gather, if you are a franchise mode person you are going to be dissapointed, but if you just play games or season mode it's pretty good. Everyone says it's pretty, and the gameplay is pretty darn good.

I'm a big franchise mode guy, so I may wait on the PS3 version of The Show. Gives me some more time to find a PS3 at a store. They still seem impossible to find.

Homer's there but he has a fictional name (which you can edit). Same for Votto. BTW, the roster management problem only occurs if you set roster management to allow the CPU to manage injuries. If you do it manually, it's not a problem. Bronson already missed a start for me after taking a line drive to the head, but now is back in the lineup.

My High Heat 2002 is getting a little long in the tooth.

I still play HH2004 from time to time. I'd play 2002, but I've long since lost the disc. I've tried to play other games, but they just don't stack up to High Heat. I like my baseball games to be realistic, which essentially means that every pitch can't be a strike and that batters should take walks.

Strangely enough, I like Mario Baseball.

I have been reading about 2K7, and The Show because I would like to get one of them this year. Well problem is, with all the bugs I have read I don't want to waste my money. I have already read several accounts that say The Show this year is WORSE than last years version of the game, with more bugs.

That's not cool.

I miss the High Heat days. BaseballSimCentral anyone? What a great site that used to be. I have said this a thousand times here, but Redsland's Cinergy field mod was the best stadium mod ever.

Sometimes I want to win the powerball just to find the guys who made High Heat and give them a job. Too bad MLB sold an exclusive license. That means no more PC baseball unless you go text with OOTP etc...

Why is it so hard to make a game like High Heat now? Those guys got it right, and that started 7 years ago. Baseball games have taken a huge step backwards IMHO.

2k7 franchise is horrible and their pitcher's rating system makes 0 sense. Not mentioning my own personal bias' pertaining to certain reds pitchers but, it is impossible for Harang and Arroyo to put up any stats in my Franchise. I've simulated the 2007 season at least 5 times and either Arroyo or Harang has yet to break the 5.00 ERA mark and the Computer lineup manager continues to place Harang into the closer role for whatever reason... Frustrating :(

Also the only pitcher in the reds' minor leagues that even remotely resembles Homer's abilities also happens to be 34 years old. Votto? no where to be seen...

I would advise anyone who ienjoys playing the game to purchase. But those who enjoy a good simulation then avoid like surgery provided by kremchek.

Also the mlb site is not giving roster updates yet. That probably will not start until the 25 man rosters are announced...

So what's the word from those that have had some gaming time with 2K7? Is it a recommended buy?

I took today off and I picked it up this morning for PS3 and I really like it. I think it's fun. I created Bailey and for fun Josh Hamilton. I just swept the Cubs in the opening series.

Hugh Blumberg is Homer Bailey. Votto and Bruce are also in the roster update as fake players.

You guys will have to check out our online league, we start playing games on Saturday. I'll post a link to the site when we get it all ready. We have 20 serious players, it should be fun although I'm the Reds and it's going to be hard to win.

What style of hitting do you guys use when you play? I think the swing stick is a really cool way to play the game.

Have any of you guys had difficulties trading in either GM mode or franchise mode?

In 2k6 you could shop players around the league and get offers from other teams, or you could go to certain teams and ask for specific players and they'd tell you what from your roster it would take to make the deal happen.

In 2k7, every player I offer says no teams are interested, and regardless of what player I specifically go after, it says "This team is not interested in trading this player"

Maybe there's some setting or option I need to tweak besides "force trades"

Any help would be appreciated!

I have had 2k7 for about a week. The graphics are over the top. I hooked the PS3 up to my Pioneer 50" Plasma via HDMI. I am also using fiber optic for my sound. Ridiculous. The game play is pretty cool as far as I am concerned. I am playing a season. Had a 5-4 game, 7-3 and 5-2 to open the season. Of course I made myself and got a nice single in the 5.5 hole to get my first big league hit. Overall I still strike out about 10 times per game but I am king adjustments.

The pitching is a little erratic but I LOVE the fact that the catcher moves around. I also like that the catcher makes recommendations. I like that I can alter my defense a bit. The bullpens are dead on. That is really cool. The first thing that really got me was playing on a windy day the players uniforms were flapping all over. Waaay cool.

Which level are you playing it on? I started out on pro but after about 5 or 6 games I was winning like 10 or 11 to nothing every game. So I moved it up to All-Star and found out that I suck and am getting crushed every game.

That's my biggest problem with most sports games. One difficulty level may be unrealistically easy, the next more difficult level is unrealistically difficult.

I hate that too. I have MLB 2006 and I'll crush teams on Pro, but it's damn near impossible on All-Star. To hit, you have to Guess the pitch, Guess which zone it will be thrown to and also keep your timing while on All-Star level. If you play in career mode and work your way up to All-Star, which takes about 3-4 seasons if you're good enough, you can expect a big dropoff in stats... AKA hitting about .011 for the season:laugh:

I have 2k7 for my 360 and I absolutely love it.

I did a fantasy draft in career mode, drafted tons of young guys. What a blast.

My rotation is hilarious:

F.Hernandez, Matt Cain, Matt Garza, Chris Capuano (my ace), and Paul Maholm (who stinks right now).

I haven't encountered any of the problems mentioned earlier in this thread as far as injuries. I love the fact that team performance and ticket pricing affect attendance (talk about realistic...the other night my Reds drew a jaw dropping 18 K fans, and the park looked depressing.).

This is a much improved game.

My rotation is what you would expect for the '07 Reds. Harang, Arroyo, Milton, Lohse, and Saarloos. Believe it or not, Milton is my best starter so far through April(tossed a no-hitter against Milwaukee). Saarloos has struggled at the back end. My bullpen consists of LHPs Stanton, Cormier, Guardado, and RHPs Weathers, Coffey, Majewski, and Belisle. My bench has Castro, Hamilton, Crosby, Valentin, and Conine. My starting lineup has Freel in right, Phillips at second, Griffey in center, Dunn in left, Encarnacion at third, Hatteberg at first, Ross catching, and Gonzalez at short. So far through 19 games at Pro, I'm 16-3. Three up over St. Louis. I was swept by Arizona. Couldn't get a hit off of those pitchers. It's a fun game with great attention to detail. I got it for the 360, so the achievements add to the fun.

I haven't bought a newer system yet, but I have it for the PS2 and I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'm playing on pro and I've lost three games so far, two against Arizona and the third game against the Cubs in the opening series. I haven't tinkered around much with the roster, except to put myself in the rotation. I'm 2-0 with a one shutout so far, by the way.

So far on my season Harang, Arroyo and Milton are dominant, with the back end struggling mightily. Prett believable, though Milton with a 2.59 ERA is a bit of a stretch. It's a console game, so I'll take it.

I've been dueling between this and my updated MVP 2005.

My MVP pitching rotation is just plain sick.

Brett Myers(FA-Signed for 3 years @ 2.70 mil per year)
Francisco Liriano (Trade- He pitched in three games for the Twins, so I swooped in and stole him for peanuts)
Aaron Harrang
Chris Capuno (FA-His stats went through the rough and he doesn't have a pitch below 80 in ranking. He signed for 2.5 mil a year)
Aaron Cook (FA- bombed with the Rockies, but I gave him a chance as a reds)

Bullpen
Jesse Crain (Trade)
Todd Coffey
Bill Bray
Brandon League (Toronto wouldn't use him at all, he was resting away in Triple A even after editing him)
Josh Rupe
Mike Gonzalez (Altanta gave him to me..Seriously, all they wanted was Miguel Perez and Gary Majewski)

Okay, I finally got MLB 2k7 for the 360 last week. Wow. Not having played a baseball game since playing the EA Sports game on the PS1, it's amazing how many facets of the game you can manage. I'm getting pretty good at pitching, but my fielding needs work (I seem to hit the stick at the wrong time, resulting in the guy running way past the ball) and I strike out about 10 times a game. I seem to hit only HRs and singles and I'm not quite used to the "swing stick." I did unlock the 1976 Reds, but I've noticed that only Joe Morgan and Tony Perez have the proper names.

All the players that havent appeared in the majors aren't listed by their real name. However they have made the players easy to recognize by making the player with the First letter in both the first and last name.

Example: Homer Bailey is Hugh Blumberg and Joey Votto is some guy that has the initials JV. That way it's easy to find, you just need to edit the anme.

I stumbled across a major league bug: I couldn't advance to the playoffs after playing through an entire season. I went in search of others on the internet who had the same issue and it seems fairly common. An absolute game killer for me. Couple that with the ridiculous fielding prowess of the AI and I'm finished with this game.

2K is sooooo close and will eventually get it right. For now, I'll stick to OOTP 2007 and my trusty copy of MVP 2005.

Hey,man I got a ps2 also and I just bought the game yesterday and was wondering what is the best way to hit a homer?? It says pull down on the right antilog stick then pull back up BUT I just hit high fly balls. How do you hit to it it in the gap or down the line for extra bases.

One last thing are they a way to make your fielders run faster and to make them dive??Thanks

Which is ridiculous to me, because last year all these guys had their real names. It was sweet. Now, if players were injured last year and missed all year, like Paul Wilson, they have fake names. What the hell. They even had retired players' batting stances in Create-a-Player, like Barry Larkin's. Disappointing.

For some guys, I think you have to be a member of the Players Assn. to be a part of the game. I just wish I could edit the names of the 1976 Reds so that they could have their proper names.

Hitting homers is also a matter of timing and getting the right pitch. I hit a few with the guys you would expect to hit them and I even hit one with Freel the other day. The right stick makes the fielder dive for balls or climb the wall to rob homers. One of those buttons on the back (L2 or R2 I think) gives a short speed burst. I forget which button, but when I'm playing I always hit the right one.

I think you can influence that with the left stick somewhat by pushing left or right to try to hit to that field. I've been able to do it a couple times.
