Why do they keep saying Milty is the 5th? Wouldn't it make sense he would be the 4th based off of the day off on Tuesday. It would give him 5 days of rest. Narron would have some cajones to make him the 5th. Though I would agree with it. But at this point, why don't you just get rid of him somehow.

Marty said he'd rather Belisle underhand the ball to Jonny Gomes than walk him. Then he walked him. This touches off a rant about throwing strikes.

It was Belisle's first walk of the game as far as I know. Marty then continues the rant until Matt whiffs Dioner Navarro. That shuts him up.

Gomes steals second without a throw, which reminds me of the game at GABP I attended back in 2005 where Julio Franco, of all people, stole both second and third off Belisle without a throw. Now that was embarrassing to watch.

My impression is that he's trying too hard to do the "radio voice." Most of what he says is palatable (except the occasional Hoo-wee), and some of it actually makes sense. But, it's early going and I think he's still trying to find his radio identity. I think he'll be fine by May or so.

Marty and Bratley need to settle down, Belisle's only given up one run.

People expect you to go out and throw strikes after getting a 5 run lead, not go out and walk the first batter and then have to work to get the pitcher out. It also doesnt help that his fielders have 2 errors in the first 2 innings.

Yeah, but Brantley also sounds exactly like Pilots pitching coach Sal Maglie in Ball Four. Bouton said that if pitchers could pitch the way Maglie was always telling them to (ball always down, never right over the plate, hitting the corner every time without fail) they'd be Cy Young winners and sure as heck wouldn't need any advice from pitching coaches.

Exactly. It's why this team is so punishingly boring. Anytime they try to spend a little cash (which it has, and then some), they get it so woefully wrong.

I agree, he is not good, at all , we have much better options and should do whatever necessary to keep the best arms on the club, try to package him w/ somebody to get a solid 4th OF. MAYBE, (somewhat a dream) the Phils will take him back IF we give them a Burton or another young BP arm for a Shane Victorino or a Werth, they are in desperate need and maybe one of our young arms will entice them, and maybe they will think he can get lucky again.

He's been a young guy trying to break in.

Plus, it seems like every time this guy gets a bit of traction that there is this knee-jerk reaction to either toss him into the bullpen as the long man or send him back to Louisville.

This Reds team seems unwilling to allow players to fail their way to success. It happened with Todd Coffey and Chris Denorfia too -- the first sign of instability or misstep and someone is out with the hook. Thank God Brandon Phillips got off to a hot start, otherwise who knows what would've happened to him at 2nd base.

Not everybody is an all-star right out of the gate. Sometimes a player has to be allowed to push through the growing pains and emerge out the other side as a better, wiser player.

The Reds just don't get it, in that respect, about player development.

We wouldn't. He has a minor league contract.
That's what I thought, JB's acting like we need to keep him up.

I thought Moeller's "big strength" was how he handled the pitching staff. Whatever that boilerplate gibberish means.

Sorta like how Brad Asumus can't hit, throw or doing anything productive, but he's behind the plate because of his alleged "wizzardy"

You're right, my apologies. I forgot about that. His prowess was defined as his ability to handle a pitching staff.

Maybe not, but the pitchers love throwing to him. And the game he calls? Amazing.

;)

Well, you can never underestimate a guys ability to do play-by-play. Oh...you meant something else...

From what I can gather Ausmus is just a fabulous guy. Seriously, everyone loves him. My guess is his game is enhanced by being perceptive, intelligent and articulate. He probably spots a lot of small things that can make the players around him better and he's good at getting his point across. Likely he's got a big future as a manager.

Not too many players can make their intangibles outweigh their tangibles, but Ausmus strikes me as one of the rare guys who can.
