Yes, exactly my point! Woo Hoo! I am so excited that the I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!

BTW, Loved seeing KC take it to BoSox too!

BTW, Loved seeing KC take it to BoSox too!

I did too, I'm sure ESPN didn't though. It's funny, with all the games going on yesterday afternoon, I just knew when I got home to turn the tv on which game would be televised.

It was kind of funny, with KC being up 7 to 1 the last few innings, it seemed like the announcing crew was just lost.

It's weird because I really have no other reason to dislike the Red Sox but ESPN has forced me to.

Just like the return of the locust, every 17 years the Reds go wire2wire.

PS I believe 'wire2wire' has been registered by Robin Thicke.:)

Well, it looks like I'll have to change the "Wire to Wire" avatar to something else. Actually, "wire to wire" was over yesterday, when the Pirates went 2-0 to take a 1/2-game lead over the Reds, so I should've done this 24 hours ago.

When I just looked at the standings in this morning's paper, it occurred to me that many a pundit predicted this order in reverse. A bit ironic, no? Yes, I know it's just three games in. This is going to be a very interesting division race this year, to say the least.

As of right now, the 2007 Reds have the same winning percentage that the 1975 Reds finished with. On the other hand, the 1982 Reds were 2-1, as well.

My prediction: this team is not as good as the 1975 team, but it's better than the 1982 team.

Albeit a very small sample size, I think the standings here show what we'll be seeing for the rest of the year. I think the Reds, Brewers, and Cards will be duking it out for the magical 85 wins, while the 'Stros and Cubbies will be fighting for 4th with the Pirates bringing up the rear. Should be a tight race all year.

Was that the worst home stand in years, or what?

Except for a miracle 2-out bottom of the 9th HR by Hatteburg to get us into extra-innings in one game, we would have been 0-7.

Yet, the starting pitching was good. And, if we're going to have a strength, I'm glad that it's that.

To keep this team from being 10-15 games out on June 1 will take a miracle. You got to wonder if Wayne deliberately torpedoed the team so he can rebuild in earnest at the deadline. Though I'm deeply afraid of an earnest Wayne.

To keep this team from being 10-15 games out on June 1 will take a miracle. You got to wonder if Wayne deliberately torpedoed the team so he can rebuild in earnest at the deadline. Though I'm deeply afraid of an earnest Wayne.

That is such an overstatement, IMO. The only way that happens is if one of the other division members gets super hot and we stay this lousy. We're not this lousy and inconsistent. We may end up a .500 club this year, but we won't be like we are this year the whole season. Sheesh, last year's club finished 3.5 games out. Only the Pirates and the Cubs finished over 15 games out and the other clubs were under ten.

The season may well be a roller coaster, but it's doubtful we'll be 10 games or more out anywhere this season.

I don't know. At the current winning %, the team would win 74 games. Many are figuring that number for the season. Pecota predicted 71 (without any help from Hamilton factored in).

The offense will probably improve (but won't be lights out) but the starting pitching will likely backslide. The bullpen will probably struggle all year but yesterday's moves are a step in the right direction. We'll see, but I still think 74 wins is an optimistic number.

I understand what you're saying, but last year 74 wins would have left us 9.5 games out in 4th place. I still think we'll end up near .500 this year.

That said, I agree on the hitting, I disagree on the starting pitching. I like our 1-2-3 and if Lohse could get his head on straight, he'll do okay. And if we can get what we've gotten from Milton overall and coincide his games with some timely hitting, that will be a plus. The bullpen is still the wild card, but I don't think it's 2006 bad. We need to move out of Funksville with our bats, frankly.

Other than Milwaukee, yes. But the Brewers have a real shot to be better than mediocre, and the Reds or whomever else would be well advised to not let them run too far out...

Ok...here's the thing.....NO WAY the Brew Crew keeps up that pace. No way. 7 games out at this point is an abberation. No doubt to get back in it the Reds better step it up, but Milwaukee will come back to earth.

You know the sad thing about the standings? Yes, we're 7 behind the Brewers, and the Brewers have our number more often than not, but it's that we're only 2 games out of the cellar. And those lowly Cubs are 2 games ahead of us.

Well, everyone's (including my) thought that being a few games over .500 is "in it" to at least late August goes out the window if anyone puts together a 100+ win season in the NL Central, that's for sure. A 104 win team is 23 games clear of a .500 team, if my math is right. So, yes, it could indeed get out of hand quickly...

I'd be willing to bet they are to the point where .500 ball gets them to 90+ wins.

Combine that with the fact no one else in the division is built to overcome this kind of deficit and I'd say your probably not too far off the mark.

Wonder what having a legit contender for your favorite team feels like?
