Close, but I don't like the lefty-lefty to leadoff. I like the way that Narron rotates the lineup, especially between facing LH and RH starters. Against a righty, which is what I assume this lineup is for, I like:

Hamilton
Phillips
Dunn
EdE
KGJ
Hatte
Gonzo
The Latin Love Machine

Against lefties:
Freel
Phillips
Dunn
EdE
KGJ
Conine
Gonzo

First start? Narron hoped to get Hamilton his first big-league start in the Arizona series. The D-backs have right-handers pitching the next two nights.

"I'm not going to tell him, because I don't want him to get the flu," Narron joked about Hamilton, who was supposed to get a start last week before he became ill.

Word must have gotten out to Narron and he must have started reading Redszone, all of a sudden Hamilton is in, he deviates from his lefty and lefty theory, and I also read that Milton will be skipped next start.

I don't think that's any big news. The 5th starter was going to get skipped any time there was an off day. If they were going to a 4 man rotation and Milton was the odd man out, that would be news.

I remain convinced that part of Milton going on the DL (besides making roster room) was to accomplish moving him to the fifth slot without humiliating him with a demotion there. Now it just works out.

I'll buy that, I think that you are close enough if not right on the money.

Last year many of us complained about various things with the team, seems like Krivsky, Narron and associates must have seen the same things, not that we are baseball gurus, but they are making a lot of changes that seemed obvious to make in the past now.

I would totally believe that Milton's back was hurt. Probably strained himself turning too quickly watching a ball leave the park.

:beerme:

They can't really skip Milton. The best they can do is push his start back a couple of games since they will need pitchers for 5 games in a row.

IMO, it's not likely that they would push back Milton since they could simply give everyone an extra days rest which would be more beneficial knowing Milton will get his turn either way.

I'll cross my fingers for you though.

I don't get that either, I thought that they traditionally started a rookie lower down in the order. I guess I can't have it both ways, him starting and being placed in a spot where he has a chance to succeed. He might be just fine though, hopefully.

Cincinnati (4-3) at Arizona (6-2)

By DAN PIERINGER, STATS Writer

Eight games into the 2007 season, the Arizona Diamondbacks already have a longer win streak than they had in the second half of 2006.

The Diamondbacks look to keep that streak alive when they host the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of a three-game series Tuesday.

After sweeping the Washington Nationals in a four-game set, the Diamondbacks (6-2) beat Cincinnati in their home opener Monday to extend their win streak to five games, the longest active streak in the majors. It equals their run from July 7-15, 2006, which straddled the All-Star break.

The Diamondbacks haven't won six in a row since a streak of seven straight wins April 30-May 6 last season, and they haven't opened their home schedule with consecutive victories since 2002.

"We don't die," said manager Bob Melvin, whose team has outscored opponents 24-8 over its last five contests. "We keep grinding. We expect good things to happen."

Second baseman Orlando Hudson hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the eighth inning to lead Arizona to a 3-2 win Monday. It helped Arizona match the best record through eight games in the franchise's 10-year history.

Hudson, a career .276 hitter, is batting .400 (8-for-20) with two home runs and six runs scored during the Diamondbacks' win streak.

"The baseball gods happened to be circling around out there," he said.

Cincinnati (4-3) starter Bronson Arroyo didn't factor in the decision, despite allowing just two runs on four hits in seven innings. Reds starting pitchers have gotten only two runs of support in 12 2/3 innings in the last two games, both defeats.

"It's one of those games you hate to see slip away," Arroyo said.

The Reds, looking to avoid a third straight loss, send Kyle Lohse (0-0, 2.84 ERA) to the mound Tuesday. Coming off a disappointing 2006 season when he went a combined 5-10 with a 5.83 ERA between Minnesota and Cincinnati, Lohse had a solid debut last Thursday. He threw 6 1-3 innings and allowed two runs in the Reds' 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.

The right-hander is 0-1 with a 5.73 ERA in two career starts versus Arizona.

The Diamondbacks will counter with Edgar Gonzalez (1-0, 3.60). He pitched five innings in his first outing of the year Thursday, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven in Arizona's 4-3 win over Washington.

The 24-year-old right-hander spent parts of last year in the minors between stints with the Diamondbacks. After a September call-up to Arizona, he went 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA in five appearances, including three starts.

He has not pitched against the Reds since Aug. 29, 2004, when he surrendered two earned runs in seven innings and failed to factor in the decision.

The Diamondbacks have won four of their last five home games against the Reds.

I don't usually agree with a lot of FCB says, but I don't think he's calling them the '27 Yankees....they're not solid 1-9, but they have some good hitters, they have some pop...you have to be careful facing them.

I don't think their pitching is that great, though, especially without Carpenter, overall, which could be their downfall this season.

With that being said, the Reds beat them more than they lost to them last season :D...it was their struggles against the WORSE teams (Cubs/Brewers) that was their downfall

The only one they didn't OPS higher than was Ross; but Dunn had far more ABs than Duncan, so I'll call Dunn the winner there. But yeah, they outperformed Griffey, Edwin, and Phillips.

Hey guys, I'm just chiming in for the first time....just got home from the game. I took off early to avoid traffic. I listened to the game on the way home and the Cards tied it up in the ninth on a Chris Duncan base hit (I think). So, the Pirates and Cards are currently in extra innings. That means Torres gets his first blown save.

Anyway, did I miss any good conversation in the first few pages?

Exactly. Torres got into some trouble with 2 men on and no outs in the top of the 9th. Pujols actually flied out to Bay in left field. It was actually about two feet short of a 3 run homer...but he flied out none the less. Bay actually screwed up and threw the ball into third base rather than to second. That allowed the runner on first to advance to second. So, with runners on secpon and third, a base hit tied it up easily. If Bay had thrown the ball to second to keep the runner on first, the base hit would've resulted in only one run being scored. That was the blown save right there.

Right, but in order to warrant a spot in any rotation, he's got to dominate RHBs (because of his awful record against lefties); and he's never "dominated" on either side of the plate. Looking at Loshe pitch, he has all the stuff. Good curve, solid slider, a change up, and a heater with some gas on it.

Why can't he put it together?

I think the Reds should give up on the season one week into the season.

Serenity now, Redszone!

No...just give up on Lohse. ;)

Nothing liek a foul out on the first pitch.

Is it just me or does FSN miss a lot of plays showing graphics and replays?

They missed Dunn's second homer on opening day, too.

REDS batters with 7 HRs this year. REDS pitchers have given up 7 HRs this year... only 1 in the 1st 4 games. 5 HRs given up since Sunday.

Don't let him shake the catcher off.

What did Alex Trevino say about Mario Soto?

A Million Dollar arm...and a ten cent head.

Lohse had a nice, quick inning there in the 2nd so maybe he'll be able to toss a few solid innings and allow the offense a chance to tie/take the lead at some point tonight. Of course, the 28 pitch 1st inning he had doesn't help matters for duration, and the Reds offense has forced Gonzalez to throw a whopping 20 pitches through two innings so far.

Also, some people may interested in this little tidbit ... it's well-documented that one of Bronson Arroyo's weaknesses is getting left-handed hitters out. Arroyo's OPS against vs. left-handed hitters is .811. Kyle Lohse, with his .839 OPS against left-handed hitters, allows an OPS 28 points higher than Arroyo.

Bronson Arroyo, obviously, absolutely blows Lohse away when it comes to retiring right-handed hitters.

Javier Valentin is a complete waste. A terrible hitter. Probably the worst plate approach of any player in the league.
