View Full Version : What Lineup Goes Tonight Against Hamels?

Tonight the Phillies are throwing a lefty. I have no idea about how individual Reds have fared against Hamels, but this one of many possible lineups fields the best outfield defense (and one OFer has to be a LH bat unless you put Conine out there and Valentin at 1B) -- if you have to play one LH OFer, make it the best defender, it drops that only LH batter a notch or two (Hamilton will likely have success against Hamels, but this takes a little pressure off), and gets three good baserunners at the top of the order for a little small ball.

FREEL
NORRIS
PHILLIPS
CONINE
HAMILTON
ENCARNACION
GONZALEZ
ROSS

No way Dunn is out of the line up unless he is injured or sick. If Griffey is gonig to play if he is feeling better as well.

Griffey should play tonight and Dunn should sit.

Norris in the lineup is never a good idea unless someone is injured.

Even then, it probably isn't a good idea.

I was going to say that I think we should just forfeit so that we could give EVERYONE a day off, but we ARE playing the Phillies, so even if Milton gives up 15 hits and 13 runs, there's still a very real possibility that the Phillies bullpen would blow it.

Even against the Phillies I have no hope of a victory tonight.

The Reds just aren't the kind of team to sweep series.

Especially because Milton's pitching tonight

Hamels threw a gem against us last year if my memory serves me right.

yes he did, and I believe it was his MLB debut as well.

It was and I have it on DVD. The kid is going to be very good as long as he stays healthy.

If Milton pitches the way he pitched his last outing, five days ago, then we can win. So far, in two starts, the REDS have yet to score a run for Milton. You'd think he was their ACE because opposing pitchers have stepped up and the offense has gone to sleep. :)

Hamels is young. He'll have plenty of games where he blows up.

Reds won an exciting game last night with a walkup crowd of almost 10k. The weather is supposed to be beautiful again tonight -- no reason to think the walkup tonight won't be as large (or larger).

If you're going to pack the house, give the fans the best the team has to offer:

RF: RYAN FREEL
LF: ADAM DUNN
2B: BRANDON PHILLIPS
CF: JOSH HAMILTON
1B: JEFF CONINE
3B: EDWIN ENCARNACION
SS: ALEX GONZALEZ
C: DAVID ROSS
P: ERIC MILTON (not the best, but dammit its his turn)

If Griffey is healthy, figure out some way to get him in. Otherwise, thats your lineup tonight, IMO.

Here's hoping... but there are no giveaway Freel T-shirts, tonight

I was one of the first to call for Hamilton to play until he proves he can't, but lefties have made him look bad. I'd sit him tonight and let the others play.

Freel CF
EdE 3B
Dunn LF
Conine 1B
Griffey RF
Phillips 2B
Gonzalez SS
Ross C

Overall he hasnt looked that good yet against lefties but he has had flashes.
Like the other night when stros brought on Miller and he just missed it flying out to LF.
Your lineup is probably the best one to use and maybe moving EE up in the lineup would help take a little pressure off.

Hamilton has a single and 1 walk in 11 PA vs.LH pitching this season.

He will get the day off unless Griffey can't play.

Hilton has a single and 1 walk in 11 PA vs.LH pitching this season.

Yeah, but you should check out her other splits.

BTW -- They made a good point last night in the TV broadcast: the majority of Hamilton's lefty ABs have come against LOOGYs or other specialist relievers who exist solely because they are tough on left-handed hitters. Its going to skew his numbers if that is all that he faces. Facing a left handed starter is a completely different animal.

If you think he's the future, may as well prepare him for guys that use both arms and let him see pitching.

Hamilton is not a guy you platoon or worry about who's pitching when he's up.

I'd rather have Hamilton face Hamels than any of the guys who came up with 1 hit against him last year.

My only thinking is I wouldnt want him to go into a funk considering his inexperience but he probably wont face too many consecutive lefties unless playing Pittsburgh with Duke, Maholm.

I'd protect him as well. In this "rotation" system that we seem to have now, everybody is going to sit some time. I do the smart thing and let Hamilton's day to sit coincide with a tough lefty on the mound.

I don't think we have any idea we know what type of guy Hamilton is.

Lets not let a handful of very productive AB's blind us to the fact that he is still largely unproven. Sitting him occasionally against tough lefties will likely give him a better chance to succeed.
