Well I like that Dunn is hitting in front of Jr. I like the fact that he's in the top three period, but I really like it when he hits directly in front of Jr.

Given how bad this offense has been, any game with Harang or Arroyo starting has to be labeled a "must win" for this team to stay near the .500 mark.

Burning Question for the Night: Will Aaron Harang make more contact at the plate than Dave Ross.

Hopefully Dunn get back on track and Jr gets started, otherwise there isn't any hope anyway.

I am guessing that Dunn's back had a lot to do with his last week. I looked at his BPIs and he had a contact % of 35 for the last 7 days. That isn't just bad, its off the charts bad and prior to the back problem in Chicago he had been swinging well.

I think this is the reds best lineup. Freel off the bench gives them a situational runner/hitter and Hamilton can act like a true lead off hitter.

If things continue as they have been, Hambone's going to be coming up with 2 outs and no men on 3-4 times tonight. Freel's been hitting in that situation seemingly all year.

We are going to start hitting better soon. Dunn, Junior, and EE are all good hitters. That can be a solid middle of the order. We'll get it going.

The fact is that the Reds really don't have any high OBP guys other than Dunn (at this moment). Some guys will improve.

So, I'm not too bothered by leading off Hamilton. He might get an extra at bat in this game due to batting leadoff.. I'm fine with maximizing the at bats to the best hitters.

Not crazy about batting Phillips 2nd, I'd probably bat Dunn 2nd and Jr 3rd.. Might as well clump the three best hitters together, even if they are all LH.. It's not as if Phillips really will protect them that much.. Although it might get LaRussa to burn through some more relief pitchers, since he plays the matchups so much "by the book".

We need this game... Atleast for my sanity! I say take 2 of 3 from St. Louis and 2 of 3 from Pittsburg and we're right back to 13-12 and ready to make a move back up... We face Kip Wells, Looper, and Keisler at St. Louis so that should not be that tough of a task...

If you want to get Hamilton out of the lead off spot when Freel isn't in there, Hatteberg may be the best option. He has a quality at bat almost every time, he works the pitcher, and he gets on base. Then you can drop Hamilton down in the order. It might sound crazy, but it can't get much worse.

I don't understand how some contend Dunn's back is the reason for his recent offensive woes when it doesn't seem evident in the field. He has made some solid defensive plays, even a diving catch, in the last week.

Are you referring to the catch he made on Sunday? I had a big laugh out of that. When the ball was hit I chalked it up as an out. Then I see Dunn sprawled out to catch it (did he dive or fall down :p: ). An average fielder has that standing up, a good fielder has it in a trot.

I really want to get back to .500 tonight. No need to lose any more ground on that mark.

We need to get the offense going....if we lose 7-6, it's not that bad, just 2 under .500. I'd rather lose 7-6 than 3-0 or 3-1. I'd rather win don't get me wrong, but our bats have to heat up.

Dunn stikes out for his career once every 3.04 Ab's
Reggie Jackson once every 3.798 Ab's.
Sammy Sosa once every 3.83

That is a pretty alarming rate. I dont really mind the strikeouts simply because an out is an out, and he gets on base usually at a higher amount than any other red. But there are things that are important to the game than stats can not quantify, like situational hitting, and just fundamental baseball. Dunn seems to annoy fundamentalist due to this. The game has changed, its more of a all or nothing game than it was in the past, so some of those virtues arent held as high anymore, but they are on winning teams, and that just scares me that Dunn is not someone you could ever build a winning team around. Fair or not, that seems to be the path that is happening. I hope that is not the case, because I like him and hope he is a Red for a long time, but he may just end up being that guy who you look at his great career stats, and say, wow, those are really good numbers for somebody that never made the playoffs.

Dunn has been around a long-time now. All of his stats that exist now are exactly who he is. Nothing is going to change.

I'm quoting myself because Dunn is what he is and has all of the at-bats necessary to prove it.

And, because of that, he also has enough at-bats in the #2 hole to prove that he should bat there as was pointed out the other day (and probably before, too) by M2 and others.

Dunn is an incredible hitter when he's put in the #2 hole. Funny how he started the year there, and has since been moved around.

Sammy Sosa never made it to the World Series.

Sammy Sosa played on the Chicago Cubs who had 5 winning seasons all the years he was there.

Statistics qualify Sosa (though I'm not sure I'd vote for him) as Hall of Fame Material.

Did Sammy Sosa play situational baseball?

Adam Dunn just isn't a sexy ballplayer. He's not loud, he's not "fundamentally" (allegedly) sound, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Consider the following splits at age 26

Player A - .262/38/107/.376/.524
Player B - .251/31/77/.349/.458
Player C - .304/42/97/.443/.592

Phillips rarely gets picked off and rarely gets caught stealing, he probably has the green light to go when he wants. We don't know if he was going or not, if he was he may not have the green light after tonight. How any of this means Narron is a hypocrite, I don't know.
