Did anybody see on Baseball Tonight where Kruk had a segment on the Pirates:confused: and said that they will be in FIRST PLACE by the end of the month. Is this man an idiot or what?

Your thread title is redundant.

Yep, Kruk thinks the Pirates are for real and Fernando Vina thinks the Brewers aren't. Quite the braintrust.

They do have some good young pitching in Duke, Snell, and Maholm but that lineup with the exception of Bay isn't scaring anyone right now.

Yep, Maholm really shut the Reds down on Sunday.

John Kruk only reads what his producers tell him to.

He's about an information giant on baseball like Homer Simpson is knowledgeable about Nuclear Fission.

Wake me up when he gets/has a clue.

The Pirates are starting to come alive as of late. Their offense is definitely the most questionable aspect, but they're .500 right now (as our the Reds)....

I can't say the Pirates will be in 1st place anytime this season, but I won't declare them totally hopeless. I think this division will be very surprising the entire season. It could very well finish on its head or near to it.

Is there anyone in baseball media that RedsZone doesn't consider an idiot?

I dunno. Eric Milton (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=3783) might be a little scared of facing them again.

10.0 IP vs. Pittsburgh in 2007. 16 hits, 7 runs (all earned).

Costas and Gammons come to mind pretty quick for me at least. I'm sure there are many others. I might not agree with them all the time and I think Gammons can get a bit homerish but I never consider either one of them an idiot.

Kruk doesn't bother me, I know he's a brain cell or two away from being declared legally retarded and take his comments accordingly. No biggie.

Joe Morgan :)

I'm not so sure about all that. I loved Joe Morgan the player with power and speed in the Big Red Machine.

Joe Morgan the announcer comes across as if he's talking down to anyone who will listen.

Well they lost a doubleheader to the cubbies today 0-2 on their way into 1st place :P

The problem is, Kruk's hair is slowly eating his head, taking over his brain.
Don't hate the man - hate the hair.

I actually think Jayson Stark has a clue and tries to remind viewers/readers of the ESPN family of networks that there are other MLB teams besides the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets.

I'd add Will Carroll to the "not an idiot" list.

He's not really "baseball media" by conventional standards, but Pat Sajack is about as a baseball purist as they come. Yeah, Pat Sajack.

As much as I dislike Kruk - I don't think his idea is completely off base.

The Pirates are in the thick of the Central in a month where only the Cardinals & Nats had a worse offensive in all of baseball.

He stated that if their bats finally get in gear their pitching will keep going and they will be in first place.

Do I believe that will happen? No - but it's not totally out of left field. The Brewers are on too good a roll right now.

The Pirates are like any team in the NL Central-they believe if they win the division; the World Series is theirs for the taking.

Kruk is ok if you don't take him seriously. Listen to some of the stuff he's muttering while they are playing highlights during the show, it's not bad comedy.

Aren't the Brewers on the wrong side of the Pythag chart on the RS/RA side?
