Interesting piece by ESPN about liars in baseball including a top 10 headed up by none other than Pete Rose.

Just another list in which Charlie Hustle ranks number 1. I prefer other lists, however, such as hits (4,256), at-bats (14,053), 200-hit seasons (10), singles (3,215), and if I'm not mistaken, winning games.

Losing games too.

Pretty weak list IMO, all recent... where's Gaylord Perry? or Eddie Stanky (watering down the field) or George Stallings (telegraph tapper in the coaches box) or the 1951 Giants telescope in the clubhouse.

That's also more in the area of gamesmanship and cheating rather than lying.

What about when Sammy Sosa was exposed for the cheater that he was when his bat exploded and cork flew out, and he tried to pass that bat off as his batting practice bat? I'd say that was a whopper.

Shammy isn't exactly a bastion of honesty, is he?

Makes you wonder if they limited it to 20 years so they could keep the focus on Rose.

Either that or sports didn't really exist before ESPN was there to cover them.

Any list of the top liars in baseball that does not include Jim Bowden -- is a bogus list indeed.

I don't want to turn this into another pro-Pete/anti-Pete thread but Pete made his own bed. He lied to the investigators, the commissioner's office, the press, his fans and the public for about 15 years. That's an awful lot of lying.
