Any lineup that features no Adam Dunn, Juan Castro starting, and Conine and Seabass hitting 4th and 5th is a lineup that deserves to lose.

Sending down EE is bad enough, but combining that with using Castro to give guys days off and this line-up is starting to look bad.

Obviously Freel would have been getting Castro's starts, but to me that is the reason why EE should be up right now. This team without EE has zero depth and cannot afford to bench regulars since Castro seems to find ways to work himself in the line-up.

Castro getting 2 starts in any series, let alone an entire season, makes it very difficult for me to believe that this team actually expects to contend.

I'm not one to complain about line-ups, but the last couple of days have made things very frustrating. A team that needs to start reeling off wins with contention getting further away starts Juan Castro over Adam Dunn.

Giving Castro any kind of regular at-bats guarantees that this season is over IMO.

This isn't a question of who is better against lefties. Everyone knows the answer to that.

Castro is playing over dunn because Narron obviously thinks he needs a rest and that Castro is a viable replacement. Either that or Dunn has a minor injury of some sort.

IMO, the Reds can't afford to sit Dunn if Castro is the alternative.

I am a fan of Conine, but he is clearly in a slump. I think he would benefit from moving down in the order.

My preferred lineup for today (substituting Keppinger for Castro, and assuming that Dunn still gets the day off):

Hamilton cf

Conine 1b

Hehe, you're definitely a teacher, I can tell.

I just look at it this way: What Castro brings to the table is a good glove. There's nothing wrong with that, but he isn't a strong offensive player. Keppinger (though it may be too soon to tell for sure) appears to be a more versatile offensive utility infielder. He reminds me of a righty-hitting Jeff Branson (which I think we can agree would be an offensive upgrade over Castro).

Dodgers - 21 lineups in 37 games
Reds - 28 lineups in 37 games

Yet, I can't get a line I read by John Fay out of my mind: "Narron generally likes to have a fairly set lineup."

He didn't say in which alternate universe this takes place because it's not the one I'm living in.

Castro is the worst offensive position player in MLB and is also worse than many pitchers.

His glove is WAY over-rated at this point in his career. Golden hands, concrete feet.

This lineup is an indictment of Reds' management, both in terms of what was given to Narron and what he is doing with it. I realize a solid lineup is difficult to create with a dearth of decent RH position players. Nevertheless, that dearth of position players should make it easier to spot Keppinger and Hopper on the bench, both of whom make it less necessary for Castro to start. If Narron wanted to play Freel and rest Dunn, he had his choice of Hopper, Keppinger, and Castro. It's like Monty Hall gave him the choice of Door No. 1 and Door No. 2, and he specifically asked for the goat with the bow around his neck that was reserved for the next contestant.

I've given Wayne Krivsky quite a bit of credit for the recent resurgence in the Reds' farm system. Prospects have been flourishing down in the farm, other guys are forcing themselves to be recognized, and for the first time in ages the Reds seem to have some young talent down in the pipeline.

But what's currently going on at the big league level is starting to get a bit ridiculous. We were losing games earlier in the season to weaker NL teams due to bullpen implosions, but the schedule isn't so kind in the near future. The Dodgers, Padres, and Indians are no joke, and the Reds may be lucky to grab two wins during this road trip if they aren't careful.

People can bash Narron all they want...but it is the execution on the players part that is lacking here. Granted Narron doesn't always put the best lineup on the field...but it is up to the players to execute with what we are playing with. For example, the other night we were down 2-0 in the top of the ninth, and we had runners on first and second...and Gonzo popped up a bunt...that was a lack of execution on the players part not Narrons. Another example, intentional walk on the 8th batter to load the bases up for the pitcher...and then Lohse couldn't even pitch strikes to the worse batter on the team...again lack of execution on the players part. Not to mention all the errors we have got in the field this year. It doesn't seem like the team is playing with any energy or compassion at all lately. EE wasn't producing for us and was making errors in the field...so I believe that we sent him down so he could start hitting the ball well in AAA in order to get his confidence back up. Granted I don't agree with Castro playing but I think it was a good idea for now sending EE down. I mean just think, this means that Hamilton and Freel can both play almost every game as long as they keep healthy. All I have to say is the past two days, teams in our division have lost and we have not been able to take advantage of moving up. Today is a must win for us.

1) Double Play? Run Scores
2) Strike out.. lead run STILL on third

As it was...we didn't get the run.

Narron has got to think WHO is coming up after a bunt like that. A guy like Freel is ALWAYS going to have trouble getting a run in from third w/ less than two out.

When you have a pitcher up who isn't a very good hitter (it was Livingstone's first AB), you bunt with no outs and runners on first and third. You want to get that second runner in scoring postion.
