BA says 95-96 and BP has him a tick lower. Either way, he's bringing heat.

From what I have heard, he compliments the fastball with an above average changeup and a usuable slider.

I saw this posted on another site from last year:

Because of the late start to his pitching career, McBeth is already 25, but his stuff is impressive, including a 92-94 mph fastball that he can dial up to 97 on occasion; he compliments it with a decent slider and a surprisingly advanced changeup that he throws with a lot of confidence late in the count

Just as long as he doesn't lay them in there like the current firestarters. I am all for anyone that will miss bats at this point

His changeup was allegedly compared to Trevor Hoffman's. How much of that is the similarity of both pitchers' career paths (converted position players) and how much of that is actual reality, I don't really know. I'm sure Billy Beane wouldn't have given up McBeth and a PTBNL for a player who won't even play until 2008 if every single scout that saw him thought that Marcus was the next Hoffman or Mariano Rivera.

Two above-average pitches, good luck with health, and a decent head on your shoulders is all you need to have a successful career in relief. Obviously, having all three of those factors in your favor is a mighty challenge.

Good fastballs (92-97) and he's got a GREAT changeup. He'll mix in a slider at times too.

I've said all along I think he's a better option then Salmon.

Let's hope he doesn't have Nuke LaLoosh's noggin or Paul Wilson's health, then.

I haven't seen him but if his change-up is as good as everyone says, then I agree. Although I like Salmon and if it were up to me both of them would be in the Reds' pen right now.

Agreed. Salmon and McBeth should both be up here.

Impossible, that would take away a roster spot from Mike Stanton, the veteran presence.

Well, here are some interesting numbers for 2007 minor league play 4 McBeth

18 innings
11 hits
6 runs
3 earned runs
3 HOME RUNS
6 walks
13 K's

If my math is right (yes it is a limited sample) every other hit is a home run, since he has gotten to Lville he has improved that to 1 hr every 4 hits.

My advice, the way Narron is moving the PenPals,
"don't buy a house or sign a long term lease"

Am I just not looking at the numbers right? How is 3 HR and 11 hits a HR every other hit? Wouldn't that be 5 or 6 HRs? I am willing to admit that I may be missing something.

Even more interesting, he's given up only three earned runs but three home runs. Weird.

Direct quote off of the Reds MLB website

Although McBeth isn't a flamethrowing type of reliever, reports say he features a good changeup and slider.

Reds manager Jerry Narron hasn't seen him pitch before and didn't have a role in mind.

As a right-handed closer in the Oakland organization, upward mobility was less likely since the A's already had young closer Huston Street and a deep bullpen.
