Per Lance's blog

Today the Reds optioned to Class AAA Louisville LHP Bobby Livingston and recalled from Louisville RHP Marcus McBeth

I'm happy to see McBeth but I didn't think they'd send down Bobby after that phenomenal start last night.

I'm not disappointed either, but who in the heck get's the next 5th slot, and who gets sent down??? This up and down BS can't be good on players and their confidence in the organization.

The Reds won't need a 5th starter until June 16th vs Texas.
Homer time?

McBeth!!!!!! Hopefully he gets to pitch this time.

As Bearcat said, the Reds don't need a 5th starter until June 16. At that time, the Reds can call anyone up they want. They can even call Bobby up again at that time.

Wayne is just trying to maximize his roster, something I like.

McBeth is going to be good if he gets his chance. I really like him.

good move by wayne we don't need a 5th starter for awhile no sense for livingston to sit up here and get no work in he can go down to AAA and still start and im sure he'll be recalled up when we need teh 5th starter. Mcbeth should start gettin some of salmons innings after last nites walk a thon he put on.

True the 5th spot is open for a few cycles, but would it not be a good idea to let Arroyo miss a turn and give him some rest in hopes of getting him back on track?

I like the idea, but Narron would never do it

Actually, it can't be Livingston

With Bobby Livingston being optioned to Louisville Saturday, he won't be eligible to come back in time to pitch next Saturday. That's when the Reds need a fifth starter.

If not Livingston, who? There's a very good chance it will be Homer Bailey. The other choices are Phil Dumatrait or Victor Santos.

"It's going to come down to Dumatrait, Santos or Homer," Jerry Narron said.

Bailey went into tonight's start 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA. Dumatrait is 5-4 with 3.79 ERA and struggled in his last start.

Santos will be in the bullpen leading up to Saturday, so an outing or two could eliminate him from consideration.

"(Bailey's) got a chance," Narron said. "He's pitched well. I'd like to see him come here and pitch well and contribute. I think it's going to be hard for him to pitch as well as the fans expect."

The Reds play Cleveland at home Saturday, by the way.

It could be Homer, and with those 3 choices, I hope it is him. If he has a good start tonight, I think it will be him.

Going by Krivsky's past comments, if Homer is called up, it's for good. So, I expect Santos to be the choice.

Why can't Homer be the 5th starter for the rest of the year? I think everything hinges on how he does tonight.

I'd love for him to be, but that would mean Milton goes to the bullpen or is DFA when he gets healthy. I don't see a DFA happening, but he could maybe be decent out of the pen.

Can't wait to see what Mcbeth's got. He's been lights out in Louisville.

I myself don't agree with it at all b/c Livingston pitched great and did'nt do nothing bad to earn a trip to louisville. What does a player have to do to earn the respect from the reds front office or manager.:thumbdown

I think it will take away all the confidence that he had after the game completly away.Hes right now thinking what more can I do and you can't do that to a young guy like him.

then he gets a 123 inning, that's fine managing, i guess it was onerous to figure out how to disrupt such a successful bullpen rotation

Narron has shown that he has no clue on how to manage a bullpen.

I am beginning to wonder if Narron can manage. Why do we still have 3 catchers?

almost as good as stanton/majewski

He got it!

I am very impressed with his athleticism off the mound- he is very "cat like." You can tell he used to be an outfielder. Welsh keeps bringing up all of his college stolen bases. I can't wait to see him pinch run, he has to be faster than Castro. Everytime they pinch run with Castro I think to myself..."What, Cecil Fielder wasn't available."

they pinch run with castro to remind him of what a base feels like since he is incapable of reaching base himself

I do recall Castro getting a base hit.

Only thing that worries me about McBeth is that he seems to give 110% on each pitch. With him being such a small guy that doesn't bode well for his arm in the future.

yes castro once got a basehit, that is certain, in the same way that Jim Dickson once got a victory for the Reds
