Krivsky just needs to sac up and take Castro away from Jerry because this is what you get if you don't. How can your defensive replacement/last guy off the bench be batting second in a non-spring training game?

The Reds deserve what they get. Until they are willing to compete salary wise with other teams for managers.

2-3 last night. Play the hot hand I guess. I honestly didn't think I'd ever see a lineup with Castro in the top 6. Usually the pitcher doesn't get to take a break after the 1st batter.

Catchers bat 8th.

However, yesterday, for the first time in a coon's age, Narron moves the catcher, Ross, to 7th because Castro is so bad and was hitting a buck fifty on the year that he had to put him as low as possible, ie 8th.

Castro gets two hits and now Narron puts him second.

Riiiiiiiight.

Sorry Puffy but I have to say this again.

The problem with having Juan Castro on the roster is the manager thinks he has to actually play him. And the Reds manager seems to think he's a 2 hitter to boot. I just vomited a little in my mouth.

Absolutely unacceptable.

I actually hate Jerry Narron now. I like the guy for a while, don't know why, but I did. I wasn't real fond of his managerial style, but I liked him.

I want him gone, now. Castro batting 2nd? How can a MAJOR LEAGUE MANAGER be allowed to bat JUAN FREAKING CASTRO second. I am so pissed off right now about this. I know it's silly, but it's really just the straw.....

Juan Castro's recent hot streak has raised his line all the way to .179/.197/.254. A whopping .451 OPS. He's on fire!!

Great googly-moogly! Get well soon, Alex Gonzo!
Thing is, I can about see Narron sitting Edwin or Phillips to get Castro some more playing time. That .450 batting average is pretty good, after all.
Oh...wait...that isn't his batting average. That's his OPS - Lohse has a higher OPS.

Seriously, think about it. The catcher has hit 8th in all but 2 or 3 games all year. Last night was one of those nights cause Narron felt that Ross deserved to hit higher than Castro.

Then in one night, based on two at bats, Narron decides Castro is hot and bats him second.

Welcome to Jerry Narron's world. Please keep your hands and feet inside the cart at all times. When you feel dizzy and the headspinning overcomes you, please lean completely over the rails to heave.

Not only that but Mcbeth didn't give up a run last night so you can expect him to go three innings tonight giving up four runs with 2 outs in his third inning and then not get used again for a week b/c he gave up some runs.

Chip R
06-07-2007, 06:59 PM
My guess is that Narron went through all his lineups and figured out one he hadn't used yet so that is why Castro bats 2nd. Either that or he wants to stay in LaRussa's good graces. Tomorrow, Harang gets suspended for hitting Bennett on the head. Not by MLB but by the Reds.

That's a pretty young coon, 1 day old in fact. Castro hit 8th behind Ross on Tuesday also.

But your point is well taken.

I don't normally get too fussed over the lineup because I think it's overrated.

Even Narron seemed to understand that Castro has to hit last, as he broke up his year long tradition of hitting the cather 8th.

How he can now put him second in without speech.

I would actually fire Narron for this alone. It is indiputable proof that Narron thinks Castro is a good hitter. When Castro hits to his career highs, he's a very bad hitter. Moving Hamilton to 7th to accomodate Castro to 2nd????

C'mon Jerry??????????

In all fairness to Narron, if the lineup is turning over in the 9th inning, we're down by one and Hatteberg works a walk, would you rather have up:

a.) Juan Castro (.231/.270/.338)
b.) Edwin Encarnacion (.263/.344/.445)
c.) Adam Dunn (.246/.378/.513)
d.) Josh Hamilton (.264/.350/.520)

C'mon guys. There really is only one choice here. B-D need to be in "run producing" spots in the lineup, not way up at the top. Maybe it's just an "inside baseball" decision that we wouldn't really understand.

My God, Castro's career OPS is almost under .600 -- it's 70 points lower than Tony Womack's....

"The Reds have to be one of the dumbest teams in baseball because they make absolutely stupid mistakes night after night. People talk about Freel, but Phillips is going to get someone killed out there. He is often in the way because he's a bit of a ball hog. He almost wiped out Hatteberg last night on a ball that was clearly Hatteberg's.

With at least a five-run lead, I would definitely allow Lohse the opportunity to finish.

I must have missed something.

The games run much smoother when Narron doesn't have to manage

He slid in front of Griffey on that last fly ball.

The way I saw it, he was sliding out of the way of Griffey after Junior called him off.

Lohse to hit for himself

I can't put my finger on the reason, but I'm not excited about Homer coming up.

I hope he pitches well.

Yes, he did. But prior to that he was running right at him.

Maybe Junior hadn't called him off yet.

Juan Castro batting second is still baffling.

And the other night, Hatteberg was parked under the ball and Brandon ran right in front of him and just snatched the ball right out of his hands.

Juan Castro

You can't stop him--you can only hope to contain him.

Let Castro on the base paths and all hell will break lose:cool:

George has me quaking in my shoes, as he reminds me that "Albert will get to hit."

George, "Albert" can't hit a 5-run homer, especially when he's due up second in the inning!

Lohse can toss a gem once in a while (and tonight certainly was). I hope though that someone becomes enamored with this start and the one before last and offers something of decent value for him before the Reds get all stupid and try something really foolish (like extending him). :bang:
