Joe Hague - the Todd Hollandsworth of 1972.
And looking at the Dodger lineup in '57 and comparing it to the '67 version...wow. It is like going from the Reds' '77 lineup and their '82 lineup. Well...not that bad.

That's right--Tony Perez at 2B!

Perez at 2B? Art Shamsky hitting 8th behind Coker and Simpson? Chico Ruiz leading-off? Fire the manager!!!

Pete Rose is missing. I remember he used to be in the reserves back then and would miss a couple weeks at a time occasionally while serving in the military. I also remember a thumb injury that put him out for a couple weeks but I thought that was in a a later year. Helms is missing too and I think he also had the military issue, but I don't ever remember both he and Rose doing that at the same time. One of them must have been hurt.

Anyone else remember the military thing? It was not an isolated instance IIRC and several players had the same issue. That would be a big story today I'd bet.

I remember Bench missing some weekends in the early 70's due his reserve commitment. I'm sure there were others but he stands out for me.
