Beating Sandy Koufax was a rare thing at that time. He was 25-5 in 1962 with a 1.88 ERA. He had a good game here as only gave up two of those runs but didn't get any support. The Dodgers didn't score until the 9th.

Not a bad lineup for the Astros escept for the fact that Roger Metzger is the lead of hitter. It's hard to get things going with a .222 leadoff hitter.

Bob Purkey was no slouch in 1962, either. He was 23-5 with a 2.81 ERA. It was a matchup between two aces.

The 'Stros would have been better off with Cedeño leading off, Helms in the #2 spot, and Metzger and Howard battling for 7th and 8th. Or maybe Dave Roberts should have hit ahead of both of them--he hit .239 with 2 HRs and 9 RBIs that year.

Good point. I overlooked Purkey. This was an excellent pitching duel as it was a scoreless game going into the 8th.
