Sarasota 3-0 T2. Dorn singles, Valaika homers.

Seems to me Valaika's really turned it around as of late. It's good to see after his horrendous start to his promotion to Sarasota.

sometimes it takes a while to adjust... seems a lot of folks forget that baseball is truely, in every sense of the word, timeless and that patience needs to be exercized in a lot of cases.. see stubbs, bailey, etc. :)

Michael Griffin got his first AA homer today. Sam Lecure has given up two hits through five innings. 2-0 Chattanooga, middle 5th.

Robert Manuel (Sarasota) has gone 5 innings, allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 6. He is old for his level, but he has put together a very solid year in Sarasota.

Coming into the game he had 61ip, 53h, 10bb, 61K, 0 HR despite being a fly ball pitcher. He has come out of the bullpen a lot, this is only his 5th start of the year, but he has been very solid.

Louisville doesn't get much of a break from the stud pitching down on the Yankees farm. Last night they got Phil Hughes on rehab and all he did was allow 2 hits over 5 innings. Tonight they get Joba Chamberlain making his AAA debut. Check out this kids numbers this season

The Reds traded Dave Williams (and cash) for Robert Manuel. Manuel's control is good that he can hit an ant with a baseball from 300 feet away. I'm using hyperbole, but his control is very good--possibly the best in the system.

Chattanooga up 4-0 now, top 7th. Marland Williams with an RBI triple, J. C. Boscan singles him home. The Lookouts lineup is less than imposing today, but it's getting the job done. Lecure is out, his line is 5.1IP, 2H, 0R, 3BB, 3K. Asadoorian has taken over.

Chattanooga just finished up a 4-2 win. Asadoorian gave up a run and left the bases loaded with no outs in the 7th. Pelland came in a gave up a sac fly, but otherwise shut the Braves down, throwing the last three innings and striking out seven.

Manuel's control is good that he can hit an ant with a baseball from 300 feet away. .

This is an important ability as it stops ants from showboating after they hit a homer or if they drill one of your batters. :)

Pelland today: 3 Innings, 2 Hits, 0 Runs, 0 BB, 7 K

Pelland in July: 9.2 Innings, 5 Hits, 1 Run, 4 BB, 19 K

Viola: 2 Innings, 0 Hits, 0 Runs, 0 BB, 3 K

He is killing the lower levels.

Bats have their hands full with Joba Chamberlain so far.
2ip, 2H, 1BB, 4K. Kid just hit 98 on the gun. He brings the heat.

Richie Gardner on the mound for the Bats. 1ip, 1h, 0bb, 0k.

Game tied at 0.

Jay Bruce 0-1 K
Joey Votto 1-1.

For the second time in 3 innings Jay Bruce ends the inning with a strikeout with runners on second and third.

Louisville down 2-0 in the middle of the 3rd.

Even though Votto has been slumping lately, he has done well against the top pitching prospects, which is always nice to see(Bruce, not so well).

No team would be willing to give him up right now. Real good debut in AAA for him.

Jay Bruce is stepping to the plate with 2 runners on again. Scott Williamson (yes, that same one) on the mound.

Joey Votto 2-2 with a walk.

no wonder the Yanks dont want to give Joba up...

The main problem with Joba is he has a tendency to fatigue late in the games. But his pitches are top notch hence the k's.

Votto is only 23. AAA is ok for this season. September call up is fine, or earlier if a trade.

But don't we plan on Votto being our first basemen on opening day 2008? Lets get him valuable experience now.

I notice Dorn had a good night . 4 for 4 with 4 singles. Do we think he can be a legitimate prospect?

Gardner isn't handling AAA very well.

Yeah, but if he's going to refashion himself as a more control-based pitcher that tosses in the upper-80s, low 90s then he's going to have to get hit around a bit until he finds what works.

It was smart to put him in AAA where he can work against more refined hitters. Nothing to lose by throwing him in the deep end and seeing if he figures out how to swim.

Yes. He has OPS'd over .900 every month since a horrible April.

April .190 22 84 4 16 5 0 1 13 9 18 2 0 .274 .286 .559

And it's nice to see that even when he wasn't hitting in April, he continued to walk. It makes slumps easier to take.
