PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks traded Scott Hairston to the Padres for Minor League reliever Leo Rosales on Friday.
Rosales went 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 24 games for Triple-A Portland this season. He collected 14 saves in 15 opportunities before going on the disabled list with a fractured hand on June 8.

In five Minor League seasons, Rosales has gone 24-16 with 70 saves and a 2.54 ERA in 232 games, including a California League-best 27 saves in 2005 and a Midwest League-best 26 saves in '04. He will be assigned to Triple-A Tucson.

Hairston hit .222 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 75 games this season. For his Arizona career, Hairston hit .238 with 16 homers and 47 RBIs in 200 games over four seasons, although he spent most of 2005-06 in the Minors.

Surprising that the D'backs would trade Hairston within the division, but , in all likelihood, Hairston is not going to make that much of a difference. There's already rumors that SD will package him in a bigger deal to acquire another player.

I'd have liked to see the Reds go after Hairston, it seems his price wasn't that steep. His AAA OPS the past three seasons was .940, .992, .995. We could definitely use a cheap RH outfield bat, especially if Dunn gets traded.
