Sadler suspended: Arizona infielder Donnie Sadler was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for a drug of abuse under baseball's minor league program.

Sadler, 32, has played for the Red Sox, Reds, Royals, Rangers and Diamondbacks in eight major league seasons.

Now his tenure with the Reds is stained forever with questions. *

I bet we all feel foolish now to have been excited about the great homerun chase between Donnie Sadler and Neifi Perez.

One of my all time least-favorite Reds. Goodness I used to hate it when he was at bat.

Probably resorted to banned substances in an effort to hang on to the last vestiges of a baseball career.

Sad, Sadder, Sadler.

So, he was the Juan Castro of his era....

The one home run he hit in 2001 off Shawn Chacon in Colorado is tainted now, but at least it doesn't affect the results. The Reds lost 14-7.

;) Compared to Sadler, I'd rather see Castro batting cleanup.

Okay maybe not, but I still loathe Donnie Sadler.

I am very shocked at this. I had no idea Donnie Sadler was still in baseball, much less the major leagues.

His first few years in the league he was Norris Hopper. On steroids. That should say something about Norris Hopper. Sadly.

"drug of abuse" doesn't sound like steroids to me..

My only enduring memory of DS was when he scored from 2nd on a sac fly. The li'l fella could sure scoot

That makes my head explode just thinking of the possible rationalizations for it. He should have been hitting behind the pitcher.

I actually don't even remember that... it must be my mind blocking out the illustrious 2001 season.

What makes you think he wasn't?

Actually with those teams having the pitcher hit 2nd may not have been the worse idea.

Boone batted Sadler third against Randy Johnson IIRC.

I believe The Big Unit had 20 K's that game.

What about when he was inserted in left field as a defensive replacement? :all_cohol

Not quite. He batted leadoff with Castro #2. One of the all-time stinkaroo lineups in that game.

Junior led the 2001 Reds with 22 HRs.

He only played in 111 games.

That game caused me to have nightmares, and to question Boone's sanity. Quess it affected my memory too.
