Friend just got an email from a source in STL. He says the Cards are getting Joel Pineiro from the Red Sox for a PTBNL.

I haven't seen this anywhere on the major news sites so I labeled this as a rumor.

Ouch for them I say but yaaaaaaaaaa for the Reds!

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense for St. Louis, I wouldn't think.

Not every pitcher the Cards acquire will manage a miracle turnaround like Weaver did. Most of them will continue at their previous level of suckitude.

MLBTradeRumors.com -

John Hadley of KTRS out of St. Louis is reporting that the Cardinals have acquired starter/reliever Joel Pineiro for a player to be named later. Hey, it worked with Ryan Franklin.

That's what I'm thinking. I guess since they played well this weekend and are only 6 out of first they still think they can make some noise in the divisional race.

But what baffles me is all the "rumors" up on the major sites seem to indicate the Cards are in selling mode. I've seen supposed rumors on Fox Sports about Eckstein, Encarnacion, and Percival.

Why trade off 3 players and then trade a minor leaguer for another? Maybe they view Pineiro as a long term project with Duncan?

The National League

After his debut year, he went through a stretch with a 36-20 record and a 3.29 ERA. Since then, he's been 22-36 with a 5.39 ERA. To my knowledge, he didn't have any arm surgeries between those two stretches (but he did have an elbow strain), so maybe a change of leagues is all Pineiro needs for a little success.

It's become an urban ledgend that Weaver flourished under Duncan.

Take away the one world series game, and he stunk like usual.

Last year, with the Angels, he had a 6.29 ERA, but a 5.29 FIP ERA.

With the Cards, a 5.18 ERA, but a 5.77 FIP ERA.

With the Mariners this year, a 5.96 ERA, but a 4.33 FIP ERA.

Over the last 2 years, his very worse pitching has come with the Cardinals.

Ask Kip Wells and Anthony Reyes about Dave Duncan. Or Jason Marquis.
