CHICAGO -- If Cincinnati Reds slugger Ken Griffey Jr. has his way, he won't be involved in another double switch.

Griffey was replaced on defense during a double switch in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Chicago Cubs. Griffey, who has won 10 Gold Gloves, was surprised by Reds interim manager Pete Mackanin's decision.

"It was the first [time in my career] and it will be the last," he said before Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Griffey, who ranks sixth on the career list with 590 career home runs, is hitting .274 with 27 home runs and 74 RBIs.

I really could care less if the cry baby had his feeling hurt. Maybe if he didnt have 2 base running blunders last night Mackanin might have thought he was capable of not screwing up.

some think this attitude is the reason he has played on few winning teams.

Griff should be seen and not heard.

It *WILL* be the last??

Who is the manager of this ball club?

Is Griffey going to quit the team if Mackanin calls for him to double-switch again?

Griffey's coming off horribly here. He's not 21 anymore.

Would you be part of that "some"? I think he has played on few winning teams because he has rarely had much talent around him, mostly during his Reds years.

just an old veteran with his feelings hurt. I'll be the first to admit i am a big griffey fan but this is something very minor to be mad at.

Jr. looked tired out there yesterday. Those base running blunders revealed a player who needed a break.

13 all star nominations, 10 gold gloves, 7 silver slugger awards, 1 MVP, 1 all star game MVP, the 1997 Major League Player of the Year, and soon enough an induction into the Hall of Fame. Other than that, nothing.

The Old Red Guard and the people here are making too much out of this, it seems he was joking around

what was better was what came next -- he said if they tried to do it again, he'd run around like tanner in the astrodome

that will be in my story

check the Post for C. Trent Rosecrans' story tomorrow

I can see the next time he gets double switched out, Griffey acting like Dorn from Major League when he was being pinch ran for

Time to give him the reins and turn him into a coach! We all know how he loves to lead guys.

No doubt, I'm sure there isn't a team in the majors who would want a right fielder with his numbers so far.

If he was being serious about it then Griffey should be benched for one game. If he was just joking aroud then I really don't care. I too am a big Griffey fan, and I don't think he would make such a stupid comment seriously.

Yanking Griffey was almost Narron-esque. (Now THAT line should calm down the "cry baby" comments. :D)

No wonder he doesn't have a World Series Ring. He's all about himself and not about THE TEAM. :D

You must not have seen game 5 of the 1995 ALDS. 11th inning Griffey on first Edgar Martinez doubles with Griffey on first. Griffey goes from first to home to win the game.

Wasn't narron-esque. Narron hardly ever made a good move. This on the other hand was a good move by Mack.

he wasn't being serious, here's the quote from the Enquirer:

"I was double-switched for the first time, and the last time," a smiling Griffey said Wednesday before making a joke about one of the "Bad News Bears" movies. "If it happens again, I will run around in circles. I'll be like Tanner in the Astrodome."

Some people are too sensitive.

We already knew it was a joke but to call us sensitive is ridiculous. We only have what the AP story gave us to go by.

I think Pete showed some guts most wouldnt do. I can see Narron pulling Dunn but not Jr ( in the middle of an inning none the less)
