Anyway, have been told that Jorge Cantu is getting called up. Not sure whose spot he would be taking, but it could be Bellhorn or something else is up. Will let you know as soon as possible.

Gotta be Conine.

Now only if Hatte would get traded so we could see Votto

very puzzling why bellhorn is in the lineup. Has edwin had a day off lately? Very nice to see Cantu up though he's been hitting well since he's come over. Hopefully next we will see votto.
Bellhorn in the line up
Considering the day before pete said maybe he can just start writing out the same lineups makes this hard to understand !

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that the Mets are about to acquire Jeff Conine from the Reds for two A-ball position players.
They probably won't be giving up much of significance. This is the move that's going to make room for Jorge Cantu on the Reds' roster. He'll replace Conine as the team's first baseman versus lefties. Conine will be used primarily as a pinch-hitter in New York. He'll start at first base versus tough lefties, but it won't be a strict platoon with Carlos Delgado.

On the other board, someone mentioned that Bellhorn is 6-12 lifetime against Smoltz. I assume that is why Bellhorn gets the nod tonight.

Smoltz isn't pitching Hudson is so this still doesn't make much sense.

I am all for trading Conine for 2 A players. However, Cantu would play at first wouldn't he? I would much rather them call up Votto instead of Cantu.

Votto is bad against Lefties. Hatte needs a platoon because he can only hit righties and Cantu although he may not be Jeff Conine I bet he would be a better option at 1st than Votto since Hatteberg is still here.

This means if we want to see Votto start at first base, we had better decline Hatteberg's option. If Cantu gets Conine's roster spot, than Votto will have to get Hatteberg's roster spot.

Yeah, sorry. Smoltz, Hudson, whatever. With Dumatrait going, I don't think it really matters.

I think Jay Bruce's more rapid than expected rise and the fact the Reds are already so left handed at the plate have made Votto into trade bait. Griffey or Dunn (if not both) will still be around at the start of 2008 as will Hamilton. Plus Bruce and Voto are both LH batters. Also Valentin may be playing his way into the starting catcher's job; and, they might keep Hatteburg. They have just too many lefties. I think the choice has been made that between Bruce and Votto, Bruce is the long term keeper.
That said Votto would draw bigger fish in the trade market if he had some major league experience.

I hope we don't trade Votto...Left handed or not....Me too. People don't really consideer him a top notch prospect, so we won't get that much in a trade. I would like to see what hes got before we consider trading him.:)

Votto is our first legitimate 1st base prospect in many years. I would find it difficult to trade him unless we got some outstanding prospects.
