Bats trail Columbus 2-1 after 3. Bannon led off the 2nd with a triple and scored on a Boscan sac fly. Shearn was rocky early, giving up two in the 1st, but has settled down. Votto and Janish have singled for the Bats other two hits.

The announcers made that sound like a blown call at 2nd. That hurt too, Bannon hit a single that would've brought him home. Shearn has only given up two hits in the past five innings, but the two run first is still hurting. 2-1 Clips after 6.

Ex-Red alert, Hector Carrasco in to pitch for Columbus. Coffey is warming up for the Bats.

And Anderson Machado greets him with a homer! 2-2

Paul Janish goes deep, and the Bats take a 3-2 lead. That's right, Anderson Machado and Paul Janish have hit home runs in the same inning. Hector Carrasco should be ashamed.

Another ex-Red alert: Chris Michalak is now being used as a pinch hitter for Columbus. Odd stuff today.

Coffey just dominates AAA hitters (2.04 ERA; 8.56 K/9; 1.32 BB/9; 6.50 K/BB; 0 HR; 0.88 WHIP). Yet he's struggled mightily with the Reds this year. He hasn't turned into a AAAA guy, has he?

Good think Jay hit that HR. Marcus McBeth allowed a run in the 9th and the Bats win 4-3.

BTW, Jays HR was off of a lefty.

McBeth gives up a run in the 9th, but the Bats hold on to win 4-3. McBeth should've had a 1-2-3 inning, but Dickerson slipped and badly misplayed an easy fly ball that would've been the third out.

Dickerson 0-4
Janish 2-5, solo HR
Votto 2-4
Herr 0-4
Bruce 2-3, solo HR
Bannon 2-4, triple, run
Boscan 0-2, sac fly
Machado 1-4, solo HR
Gutierrez (PH in 8th) 0-1

Shearn (W: 7-10) 6IP, 6H, 2R, 1BB, 6K
Coffey 1IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
Pelland 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
McBeth (S: 10) 1IP, 2H, 1R, 0BB, 0K

I hope he doesn't sit like what the Mariners' Manager has chosen to do with Jones.

He can't play for Raul obviously, who has put this Mariner's team on his back and is carrying them to the playoffs. (1.400+ OPS in August!!!) But, with his bat and his defense, I'd find a spot for him. The M's manager says he doesn't want to change the chemistry of the team and I can see that. Guess Jones is learning how to win.

I'm hoping not. It has got to be some sort of mental block or something because he has been successful before on the big league level. Maybe its the coaching, maybe its the mound at GABP. I dunno, but I think there is still a sub 4 ERA in that arm as a reliever in Cincy.

I don't see how people could leave him off a Reds Top 10 Prospect list. I don't care what his plate discipline or defense is (at a postion he's not even going to play as he advances), a 19 year old with 22 HR's in A ball is a top 10 prospect no matter how you slice it.

Adam Rosales is 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks tonight. Rosales now has 64 extra-base hits on the season (39 doubles, 10 triples, 15 homers) in 452 atbats. He's 10 XBH behind Jay Bruce for the minor league lead. This guy can hit. His power numbers have increased by a large margin since he was promoted from the heavy pitcher friendly Florida State League to Chattanooga. Rosales is someone to keep an eye on. I'd love to see him start getting some more starts at second base to see if he can successfully play that position and possibly allow the Reds to shift Phillips to shortstop and trade Gonzalez.

Sean Henry went 0-for-4 in his Reds organizationalk debut. Jose Castri went 2-for-5 with two singles.

Rosales finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks.

I personally think that Phillips to SS needs to be done, with Keppinger, Cantu, and Rosales competing for that spot.

I wonder why they moved Rosales to first, and was it a permanent move?

Eric_Davis

22 homeruns would mean a lot more if it was 350 at-bats, but not in 477 at-bats, and not when you're walking only 22 times while striking out 139 times. It would seem the guy's swinging for the fence every pitch he likes of every at-bat. Zero plate discipline even for a 19-year old looking at the numbers.

However, he's producing RBI's, too. So, he's not just hitting solo shots. Quite a good season, as you say, for a 19-year old, and worthy of consideration as a top-10 prospect.

At one point, Rosales had an excellent arm at 3rd, but he struggled with (IIRC) an elbow injury last year. That's probably why they moved him to 1st, but I have no idea if it's permanent. Either way, I like him a lot.

Also, some guy named William Penniall just showed up on Billings roster and played tonight. Anyone know where he came from?
Edit: I just noticed that he is almost 24, so he's most likely just a roster filler.

Penniall must be a recent signing because he is not in the 2007 Reds Media Guide.
