Louisville is about to get underway. Matt Maloney makes his AAA debut.

Anderson Machado in LF?
Paul Janish at SS
Joey Votto in RF?
Aaron Herr at 2B?
Jay Bruce in CF
Jesse Gutierrez at 1B
Luis Bolivar at 3B
JC Boscan at C
Matt Maloney at SP.

Interesting positions for some of the guys....

I find it hard to believe Votto is as bad in LF as some say if he is playing OF now.

I find it hard to believe that Mike Stanton still has a job with the Reds..... but hey, what do I know?

Matt Maloney has a strikeout, but it was a wild pitch and the runner is now standing on second after stealing the base.

Paul Janish had a single in the first for the Bats.

Abraham Nunez just destroyed a HR to CF off of Matt Maloney.

Dayton is beastly. It seems like they win every time I look at the games. I bet they could beat Sarasota.

Matt Maloney through 5ip, 3h, 2r, 0bb,7K. Bats have yet to score a run and that HR is coming back to bite Maloney at this point.

Dayton would probably get eaten alive by Sarasota.

So, does Maloney have an out pitch? 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7K.

I see Maloney has kept his K rate up, at least through 1 start

Will be interesting to see what the reports say on Maloney.... I still don't know how I feel about his future so long as he continues to top out at 88 MPH though.

Is Maloney next in line for a start in Cincinnati?

He very well could be in the sense that he might be the next guy called up outside of Belisle who will be starting Saturday.

If Maloney's FB is not getting those K's, he's gotta have some quality location and off speed pitches.

Maloney would have a shutout going if not for that wild pitch on the strikeout.

dougdirt

Maybe, maybe not. He may have made the same pitch to Nunez who may have done the exact same thing to it.

The Bats bats just aren't getting it done tonight so far.

Inning would have been over had that been a strikeout. The next batter flew out for what would have been the third out. So, at worst, it would have been a solo HR to leadoff the second.

still, the shutout would have been gone.

I would imagine it's just an organizational need type move, but why Donaldson in Louisville while Guevera and Till continue to dominate and remain in Chatt?

Roenicke hasn't pitched since the 12th... but hasn't been put on the DL. Its quite strange actually.

Is he hurt or just dumb managing.

Dont know. He has not been put on the DL during that time at all unless the milb.com southern league page just felt the need to leave it out. Havent been able to find anything out about it.

Either way, there are plenty of crafty lefties that top out at 88 that have had unbelievable success at the major league level. I wouldn't limit his prospect status based off of that fact alone. IMO, Maloney is one of the top four pitching prospects in the organization.

jeff francis tops out at 88mph up here in the thin air @ coors.. he's done pretty well.

lefties typically don't throw as hard as rhp either. i'd say its above average if a lefty can sit around 89-91 during a game.

his velocity doesn't worry me as long as he's got movement, and by all accounts he does. add command to that equation and I like what I hear/read/see. it may ultimately take him a bit longer to adjust at the game's highest level, but I certainly feel he's being underrated by most around here.
