According to the Chicago Tribune, Baker is trying to get his former 3rd base coach to be the bench coach for the Reds. Will it happen?

Speier to be named

The Reds will name Chris Speier as infield coach today or tomorrow. He was on Dusty Baker's staff in Chicago. I assume he'll be bench coach as well

I copied this from John Fay's blog.

Baker's coaching staff complete
Speier, Lopez will rejoin Reds skipper
BY JOHN FAY | JFAY@ENQUIRER.COM

When Dusty Baker decided to bring back most of the Reds' coaching staff from last season, he did so because of the familiarity the players had with the staff.

Today when the two remaining spots are filled, they will be filled by coaches Baker himself is familiar with.

Chris Speier will be named infield/bench coach and Juan "Porky" Lopez as bullpen coach.

Both were members of Baker's staff for the Chicago Cubs during Baker's three years there.

Speier is a former big league shortstop. He played 19 seasons, mostly with the San Francisco Giants and Montreal Expos.

Speier served as the Oakland Athletics bench coach in 2004 before joining Baker in Chicago.

He also coached with the Milwaukee Brewers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was on the Arizona staff in 2001 - the year the team won the World Series.

Speier is given credit for helping improve third baseman Aramis Ramirez's defense with the Cubs.

Speier's son, Justin, is a reliever with the Anaheim Angels.

Lopez served as Baker's bullpen coach in Chicago for his three years there.

Speier and Baker will join the holdovers from last season: Pitching coach Dick Pole, hitting coach Brook Jacoby, third base coach Mark Berry and first base coach Billy Hatcher.
