from MLBTR:

The official acquisition of Octavio Dotel meant the White Sox DFA'd David Aardsma. Aardsma, 26, has whiffed about a batter per inning over his last two seasons. He has to have a little bit of trade value.

Is there anybody else that wouldn't mind taking a flier on this guy? He has a lot of upside and could be had for very cheap. The White Sox need to restock their farm system and they could start by acquiring a B prospect from us for Aardsma. All he needs to do is limit the walks and he could be quite good...

I know there were many here that advocated picking up Aardsma last time he hit the market. If there are guys you're going to let fill in the empty spots during ST, it should be guys like him.

Dont see where he really fits on the team. No roster spot for him unless of course we start eating some contracts and DFAing our own guys.

He would be more productive with a spot than Mike Stanton, Gary Majewski, and Tom Shearn...

Like i said unless we start eating contracts and DFAing our own guys off the 40 man. Is shearn even on the 40 man?

The White Sox have a full bullpen, otherwise they would not have DFA'd Aardsma. They do seem to be short on outfielders, so possibly we could work in a trade for Freel or Hopper.

I think he's one that could definitely help on the whole.

Would they do a Freel for Aardsma?

Their 40 man is at 40 right now after the DFA so probably would have to be a minor leaguer

I'm pretty sure Shearn is a non roster invitee...Freel is overpaying.

I think you are correct, but I would have to double check.

And I just checked the Reds website and Shearn isn't on the 40 man.

But I am not a big advocate of acquiring Aardsma. Personally, unless we DFA Stanton, I really think we should pass on him, but that's just my two cents worth.

Majewski is going to have a great year for the Reds this year. He's gotten a bum rap the past year and a half because of injuries IMO.

Aardsma had a few really awful outings that ran his ERA up quite a bit. Was solid for the first 1 1/2 months of 2007 after a decent 2006. Strikes out a lot of batters, throws very hard and is only 26. Could this be a "buy low" WK Special?

He's earned his bum rep with his play. If he was injured and still out there playing even though his performance was hurting the team then you can add that to his bum rap as well.

Trust me. Both of you guys will be singing his praises come June. If not, I'll admit I was wrong. :)

He is garbage worse than Randy St, Calire, Mark Kroon and Jose Pena to third third power. He is though I''ll admit as good as Mke McQueen

Well I hope your right. He will definetely get his share of oppurtunities to prove your point, more than other relievers like Brad Salmon.

Gary Majewski:

10.33 H/9, .54 HR/9, 3.32 BB/9, 5.17 K/9
in 200.1 MLB innings

Even in the best year of his career, 2005 in Washington when he had a 2.93 ERA, he had a 1.36 WHIP and only struck out 50 batters in 86 innings. The only thing this guy is good at is getting ground balls (56%) and avoiding the home run. We have much better options in our system...

Obviously this would have been a very bad idea for our FO because the Red Sox made the move and they are a horribly run franchise...

Red Sox acquire reliever Aardsma for 2 Class-A pitchers

January 28, 2008

BOSTON (AP) -- The Red Sox obtained reliever David Aardsma from the Chicago White Sox for Willy Mota and Miguel Socolovich on Monday in a trade involving three right-handed pitchers.

Aardsma started last season with Chicago and went 2-1 with a 6.40 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 32 1-3 innings over 25 relief outings. In the second half of the season at Triple-A Charlotte, Aardsma, 26, was 3-2 with a 4.33 ERA with 15 saves in 18 appearances.

He's made 81 relief appearances with the White Sox, Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants, compiling a record of 6-1 with a 5.16 ERA.

Mota had 17 relief outings last year at Class-A Lowell, going 5-3 with a 2.60 ERA and one save. Socolovich pitched last year for two Class-A teams, Greenville and Lowell. He was 2-2 with a 6.65 ERA in 11 games with Greenville and 5-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 14 games with Lowell
