Report: ESPN's Jacobson suspended

Nearly 10 days ago, Sports Scope told you about the seemingly lame Mike & Mike roast in which ESPN's Dana Jacobson apparently had too much to drink and vulgar mouth to go with it. One report said Jacobson was drinking straight from a bottle of the high-end vodka Belvedere.

Jacobson is paying for actions. She has been suspended one week for her behavior, according to the Chicago Tribune.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz told the Tribune: "Her actions and comments were inappropriate and we've dealt with it." However, Krulewitz did not confirm or deny the suspension.

The Catholic League put out a press release detailing some of Jacobson's alleged anti-Notre Dame comments.

In a statement, Jacobson said, "My actions at the roast were inappropriate and in no way represent who I am. I won't make excuses for my behavior, but I do hope I can be forgiven for such a poor lack of judgment."

Of course, as one wise man pointed out, the question of why Mike Golic Mike Greenberg deserved a roast continues to go unanswered. (That's what I want to know!)

"According to some news and sports websites, ESPN anchorwoman Dana Jacobson graphically attacked Jesus Christ at a recent roast of her colleagues; she was reportedly intoxicated. At the January 11 event, Jacobson roared from the podium, “F*** Notre Dame,” “F*** Touchdown Jesus,” and finally “F*** Jesus.”"

Holy crap. Gotta get me some of that Belvedere vodka.

Nothing says classy like chugging vodka straight from the bottle.

Sounds like BRM's wedding reception.

Good times, good times.

I can't figure out which part of that article explains why she still has a job. She sure wouldn't in almost any other business I can think of. Does the picture make it self-explanatory?

If it was Erin Andrews, I'd understand it.

Notice Chip didn't remove this picture as he did in the hot chick tennis player thread as a violation of the "no pics of hot chicks allowed on redszone" rule.

They did it to raise funds for Jimmy V's foundation. All proceeds for the roast went to the fund.

That doesn't really answer the question of WHY they were the ones who deserved a roast.

You want to have a roast, roast someone who people actually care about hearing roasted... Chris Berman ... Dukie V ...

Dukie V is so in love with supporting the Jimmy V Foundation (nothing wrong with that, btw) I'm sure he would have gone along with a roast.

It would have raised more money for the V Foundation had they chosen to roast someone that people care about hearing roasted.

For what I remember hearing is that they offered to be roasted to raise the funds. I guess the ESPN head honchos approved.

Good point. Vitale is one of the Foundation's biggest advocates. Seems like he would have been a good choice. Maybe he turned them down?

Well, considering the general intelligence level--or lack thereof--of the leadership over at ESPN, none of that surprises me in the least.

They don't have the video of Jacobson's "roast" out yet, but they do have a clip from when Jeffrey Ross was roasting.

Maybe I'm insensitive, but that term has been used in ways not aimed at an ethnic group. Think about how many of us have used the term "lynch mob" with absolutely no reference to persons of color.

When comments like this make the news, allegations of racism and the intent in people's hearts is called into question. We know that Woods and the woman who made the comment are friends and he knows she wasn't referring to the old despicable practice of 100 years ago. I believe her intent was not to reference lynchings in the South. Still, in these days of oversensitivity, she should have known better. I believe this is another case of people being offended on behalf of Tiger Woods. I prefer to let HIM decide on what offends HIM.
