If the Orioles do complete the Bedard trade, word is they would likely then send All-Star second baseman Brian Roberts (.290, 12 HR, 57 RBIs, 50 SBs) to the Chicago Cubs for prospects, possibly outfielder Felix Pie and pitcher Sean Gallagher (3-1, 2.66 at Triple-A Iowa). Pie batted .362 with nine home runs and 43 RBIs at Triple-A Iowa but hit just .215 in 177 at-bats with the Cubs in 2007.

However, the Roberts deal appears to be waiting on completion of the Bedard deal.

This trade might help the Mariners outfield depth if they do go forward with a trade for Bedard.

I dont know why the cubs would even try to get Roberts.

Why not? Pretty solid player.

Why not? Pretty solid player.

I just dont see why they see a need for him.

Derosa is pretty much the same guy but doesnt steal bases.

Yes. I have mixed up the 2 a couple of times, but this time I did not edit in time.

Pie is not going to be traded. I can see Gallagher going. This thread has a pretty misleading thread title. There has not been a deal.

I don't see why this trade would happen either. Pie is really good from what I have heard and well the Cubs aren't exactly 'hurting' at 2B either....

Re: Felix Pie- How often do these supposed "five-tool" outfielders actually pan out?

Still, I agree that it doesn't make sense for the Cubs to go after Roberts in the first place...

The SI article suggests it is possible he will be traded. It is not a misleading title at this point.

Derosa can pretty much play anywhere. If they got Roberts they would probably put Derosa in right and Fukudome in Center. Pie did had some solid Triple A stats. I don't see the hurt in adding an all-star caliber player in exchange for prospect and a marginal pitcher.

They signed Fukudome to play right and reports are that thats the reason he chose the Cubs over other teams.

I read that as well, but I've also heard that he can play center.

He can play center but it seems widely known that he had no interest in it

True, but that's been said about a lot of players who have moved positions. Soriano comes first to mind.
