View Full Version : Things You're Terrible At.....

No matter how hard you've tried, thinking it looked easy and that you could do it or would be good at it, it's turned out to not be your "cup of tea" (so to speak). In fact, you are down right terrible at it. Maybe it's an activity, hobby, chore, or even behavior or habit that society stereotypically says a man or woman should/shouldn't be good at due to their gender.

Or maybe it's a habit that you've developed over time, maybe due to age or whatever, that you wish you could change/fix, because it frustrates the heck out of you yet you don't know what you can do to correct it.

Like with me at remembering names. I have a terrible time remembering names. And I'm talking about people I interact with, such as family members and/or co-workers, on a daily/weekly basis. I suffer from "brain farts" where I all of a sudden can't remember that person's name. And it's embarrassing and frustrating.

Or maybe it's something you can't do anything about, but it still frustrates you like being the hyper active person that I am. And even though my body, due to age is slowing (breaking) down, my mind isn't. I have a hard time staying on task because I have a zillion other things going on inside my mind. I'll therefore, in an attempt to get the task done quickly as possible, take shortcuts, or as I call it "improvise". Which causes my wife and kids to shake their collective heads and stand next to the phone in case 911 needs to be called.

My wife always says .... "Watch your Dad kids and learn. Learn what the wrong way is, and how not to do something."

So I am teaching my kids something. :p:

I can't remember song lyrics to save my life. I know people who can sing some old song that they don't even like. I can't remember the lyrics to my favorite song. Somehow, I think it might be tied into my other weakness, foreign languages. Had a horrible time with my foreign language requirement in high school.

Painting. Tried to paint the second bedroom in my new place today. It was just short of a disaster - uneven coats, roller lines, etc. Not sure if a second coat would help, or if I should just hire someone to do it right the first time...

Amen brother!

In High school I took whatever the minimum math requirements were and cut my losses.

I hate to lose. When my brother and I get together and play backgammon, I've been none to trash some boards.

I'm what you would call an unorthodox handyman. I do it my way, not maybe the conventional way. Tim the Toolman and Red Green are my idols!

People will watch me doing a project and shake their heads - "you sure are going about that the hard way" - which may be true. But I getthe job done, and the finished result looks good.

Unless it involves mitre sawing. Even with a table mitre saw I can't cut angled corners that mesh. I always buy extra trim for mistakes.

I'm pretty bad at controlling my anger out bursts, its not like I hit people, or anything like that, Its just I get annoyed and angered really easily. I don't really have any clue what to do to get better either, haha.

Public speaking--If I have to talk to more than one person I just get extremely tongue tied--I reverse phrases--Like instead of saying "A breath of fresh air" I will say "A freth of breash air.....Also home repairs--I think I'm a good father and husband but around the house I'm just useless--I will try to fix something and the minute it goes wrong I'm ready to throw whatever it is out the back door--ARGH!!!!

I'm just the opposite. I'm not as bad as I used to be, but I've always been something of a shy person, trouble looking people in the eye and everything. Put me in front of a large crowd and I can speak or sing without a problem, but one on one it's a different story.
