Nuxhall decision Tuesday
By 700 WLW 20-20 Sports
Monday, February 18, 2008

When Reds fans were asked to nominate their favorite broadcaster to the Baseball Hall of Fame last year, they came out in droves to support Joe Nuxhall. On Tuesday, they'll find out if the legendary broadcaster known as the Ol' Left-hander will be awarded the 2008 Ford C. Frick Award, which carries with it a ticket into the broadcasters' wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Nuxhall died on November 15 at age 79.

This year, fans voted Nuxhall, Bill King and Joe Morgan into the group that's up for consideration. Nuxhall garnered 82, 304 votes. Reds fans will find out Tuesday if Nuxy goes to the Hall.

I'm praying that the Ol' Lefty wins it. He deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame. I think it's pretty cool that all the Reds fans voted nonstop to get him this far. It's kind of like a thank you for all those years in the booth and on the mound.

It would be nice if Joe Morgan would tell voters to vote for Nuxhall over him.

From Hal McCoy's blog:

And while it isnít official, it doesnít look as if former Reds broadcaster Joe Nuxhall won the Ford Frick Award that would put him in the Hall of Fame.

The official announcement isnít until 2 p.m., but the Hall of Fame has not given the Reds PR department a heads-up. When Marty Brennaman won the Frick Award, the Reds PR department was notified the day before.

And Nuxhallís partner, Brennaman, was not in camp Tuesday, another indication. If Nuxhall made it, Brennaman most likely would be in camp to avail himself to the media.

Does anybody think Nuxhall could be a good fit for the Buck O'Neil lifetime achievement award?

It makes me mad that he got snubbed but, let's face it, we all know what Nuxy means to us. We don't need a panel of so-called experts to "legitimize" it.
