With the 73rd pick in the 2008 NFL Draft the Minnesota Vikings select Jordy Nelson, WR Kansas State.

We added a wonderful TE in the 2nd round and now add even more play makers to our offense. At 6'3" and 215 lbs, we feel Jordy can play the slot while Berrian and Fred Davis stretch the middle of the field.

Looking for prospects for my next pick, does Miami (FL) have any DL crack dealers coming out this year?

Puffy

With their first three picks in this three round mock, the Panthers have grabbed a QB, a LB and a Safety. Needing to find a compliment to D'Angelo Williams (in the "new" NFL where tandem backs are all the rage) the Panthers feel they need someone more North/South than the shiftier Williams. Someone who can break some tackles and provide a change of pace to D'Angelo.

Therefore, with the 74th pick of the Redszone mock draft, and once again drafting for HeatherC1212, the Caolina Panthers select Matt Forte, RB, Tulane.

Go wave!

With the 75th pick in the 2008 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select Anthony Collins, OT, Kansas.

The Bears have now fulfilled three key needs on the first day of the draft. We are happy with all three picks and we still have one more (#90). We held out on Collins in round 2, hoping he would be around in the 3rd. It has paid off, as we got both Henne (who would not have been around by this point in the 3rd round) and Collins.

1. (#14) Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
2. (#45) Chad Henne, QB, Mich
3. (#75) Anthony Collins, OT, Kansas
4. (#90)

The Cincinnati Bengals have already filled two needs on defense, adding a run stopping weakside linebacker in Rivers and a defensive tackle in Trevor Laws in the second. However, still holes to fill on defense.

With the first third round pick, the Cincinnati Bengals select Cliff Avril, DE/LB from Purdue. With the possibility of employing more 3/4 sets this season, we feel like he will be a major contributor and can also spell Antwan Odom as well.

While he'll certainly increase the visor ratio - which is always a good thing - Colt just had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip. The recovery and rehab time would take 8-12 weeks, meaning he would miss all of the offseason workouts held by the team that would potentially draft him. Couple that with the rough last game of his college career, and Brennan probably won't get picked until round 6 or 7. That is, if he even gets picked at all.

Hi, everybody. I'm Mickey Loomis, general manager of the New Orleans Saints, and I'm here to announce the New Orleans Saints' third pick of the 2008 RedsZone NFL Mock Draft.

Wow. We're still gloating over Balmer dropping to the second round as we thought for sure that he would be gone by then. We're really good at mock drafts! Yes!

Okay, so at this point, our biggest need is linebacking depth, especially in the interior. We were hoping Philip Wheeler would drop down this far, but he's now playing to win the game in Kansas City.

We were torn between Beau Bell and Jonathan Goff, but Beau Bell is a girly name, and Jonathan Goff already knows what it's like to look good in gold, so we'll go with the guy who shot up our draft board following the combine, Jonathan Goff.

For the record, I will be out of pocket until late Sunday evening. I would still like to make my picks, but I also know people want to keep the draft moving. I'll definitely be able to make a pick real late on Sunday, but if any of my picks come up well in advance of that, then please, someone feel free to choose for me. :)

What do you think of who I've taken so far?

I think all 3 of those guys could end up starting for the Pats D.

HumnHilghtFreel
04-11-2008, 09:53 PM
You probably should have focused more on the offense, theirs definitely needs some tuning up!

Pretty good picks though, especially if Davis does well at LB... some good young guys on that defense is scary to think about.

Buckeye33
04-11-2008, 09:54 PM
I like Talib, Hardy, and Rice for the Cowboys. I don't know anything about Young.

If the Pats take Ellis in the real draft, I'd be shocked. They need DBs and LBs more than they need a DT. I think I would have taken McKelvin, put Ellis is obviously very good. I think Lee was your best value Wily.

Since we are asking opinions on drafts, how do you guys like mine for the Vikings? I am really not a Vikings fan, but..

1. Derrick Harvey DE
2. Fred Davis TE
3. Jordy Nelson WR
4. Tyvon Branch CB

I felt the Vikings needed a DE to replace Udeze and then needed offensive weapons to help take the heat off Peterson.

WMR

I contemplated picking offense, but the offense is so damn good anyway... if they had lost Randy Moss, it'd have definitely changed my strategy.

Agree, some more youngsters w/ real talent on the Pats D is scary. But they really do need an infusion of youth in their defense.

I think assuming the pick makes it, WillyMo will like my next pick for the Bengals.:)

So far I have Keith Rivers, Trevor Laws, and Cliff Avril, all of which fill major holes on defense. I'd still like to get a tall receiver to replace Henry, but there are really none worth taking in the 2nd-3rd round range. I thought about Davis before I picked Laws in the 2nd, but with Utecht and the hole in the middle I figured Laws was a better pick.

Wesley Woodyard, linebacker, from the University of Kentucky.

While Wesley played linebacker at Kentucky, he will be converted into a strong safety in the NFL. He did, in fact, have the 3rd fastest 40 time of all safeties at the combine. He comps out very well to Rodney Harrison, and we expect him to have an immediate impact on our team, both on defense and special teams. Wesley is a true game-changer with an unbelievable "nose for the football."

Thanks patnah. If the Bengals could have the draft that I put together for the Pats, I would be one happy dude.

All 4 of those players would start for the Bengals (prolly 3 out of 4 would start for the Pats... possibly all of them, however).

Well, the New York Football Giants (the Super Bowl Champs) were all set to look one of three ways with the 95th pick of the draft. WR (to add some more speed and maybe special teams ability), S (speed, position of need) or DT (could use some rotation additions). Then Antwaun Molden falls to us. We rate him as a mid second round talent and there he is at the bottom of the third round.

Thus, going with the best talent available, the NY Football Giants select Antwaun Molden, CB, E. Kentucky

The Redskins find themselves with this "extra" pick and are very happy about it. While we are not arrogant enough to think our team can't use help deep in the third round, we also believe we've already addressed our most glaring needs and can afford to take a bit of a flier with this pick.

So, we're going with a player we really like, period. We're going with a player that would have most likely gone much higher were not for a late-season injury. With the 96th pick in the draft, the Washington Redskins select.......

Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon

I know I took a lot of crap for the Flacco pick of the Eagles in the 1st Round, but as of this morning, Mel Kiper Jr has Flacco as his #2 rated QB behind Matt Ryan. Said Flacco could be taken anywhere between mid 1st, and end of 2nd, and would be surprised if he didn't get taken by the 2nd.

I can't remember if he said it on SportsCenter or Mike & Mike in the Morning (since Todd McShey was taking Golic's place to talk all about the draft).

Conversely, McShey and Kiper couldn't agree on Henne, but both of them felt that Andre Woodson's stock is falling due to his long throwing motion, and not getting rid of the ball quickly.

They put together their latest top 5, and it was as follows:

Ryan
Flacco
Brohm
Henne
Booty

So, I still stand by my Flacco pick!

The Cincinnati Bengals are on the clock...

So far, the Bengals have addressed three major holes on defense. Of course, this draft would have changed dramatically had it taken place before Chris Henry was released. However, this late in the draft there are no receivers we are considering, so we have decided to fill our last hole on defense.

The Cincinnati Bengals select:

http://www.nancarrow-webdesk.com/warehouse/storage2/2007-w45/img.59612_t.jpg

Josh Barrett, safety, Arizona State.

Losing Madieu hurt us in the secondary, but we feel that Barrett can compete with Marvin White and Chudike Ndukwe for playing time.

Atlanta selects

Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa

A reach? I don't think so. He is a physical CB that can run and probably can play a little safety.
