For a true sports fan, if there any better four days than the opening 2 rounds of the NCAA tournament?

If you ever have the chance, go to an entire slate of games in round 1. 4 games, 8 teams, 8 styles of play, 8 bands, 8 sets of mascots, 8 sets of cheerleaders ( ). Watch hoops from noon until about midnight, with a couple hour break to go somewhere and get some pizza or a burger for dinner.

I had UConn going to the Elite 8. So far that's my only huge blunder. I'm 22 of 28 so far, which puts me tied for fourth in the Redszone bracket competition.

Louisville seems to have found the shooting tough that evaded them in their past two games. They'll be tough to beat if they can sustain it past this game.

Villanova was way behind earlier but is now leading Clemson by 1 with about 12 minutes left. That is happening in Tampa where in that location a 12 seed, 13 seed and another 13 seed have already won today. Now another 12 seed is trying to win.

Trivia: Name the conference of the last two national champions in NCAA men's basketball and football?

Football. Psht.

The PAC-10 is UCLA and then everybody else.

The SEC the last two years was Florida and then everybody else.

Hell, even the stripped down C-USA has Memphis.

The SEC and the Big 10 have tumbled pretty severely the last five years in basketball, overall.

At least three teams in the Big East are better than Stanford. Maybe four.

Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame.

Stanford would beat Notre Dame. The Louisville/Georgetown matchups would be interesting.

Well, considering the Pac-10 has five more National Championships than any other conference over the years I'd say they're doing something good. ;)

BTW I am a fan of the Big East, don't get me wrong but the Pac-10 is also a great conference.

Arkansas knocked off Indiana.

Villanova leads Clemson 64-60 with 3:20 left.

Louisville beat Boise State.

Okay, I should stipulate: they've been weak since 10 years before you were born. You're right: they shredded in the early 70s.

Eh, it's not difficult to make that championship claim when UCLA was college basketball for a decade or so. ;)

I'm fairly confident both Georgetown and Louisville are better teams than Stanford. Pittsburgh (now with Fields back), Notre Dame, and Marquette are all up there in the discussion too. The Stanford/Marquette game tomorrow should be a good one.

The Big East really is a very impressive basketball conference right now. Their top teams may be a half notch or so behind the elite of the elite (UNC, Memphis, UCLA, etc.), but the conference is so deep in good to very good teams that the conference schedule just becomes an absolute grind with quality opponent after quality opponent for two plus months.

Villanova is two minutes away from landing a 7th Big East team into the second round. If you think about it, that's pretty impressive as a conference.

Even in the last 15 years the Pac-10 has two National Championships and seven Final Four appearances (and could jump to eight this year as UCLA looks very strong). That's not too bad.

FCB, please, in your infinite wisdom, see if you can guess which conference holds the following marks:

- Made 15 appearances in the Final Four since 1993. (Only second to the ACC)
- Won 5 national championships in that time
- Has a team advance to the Sweet Sixteen 18 times in a row (1990-2007)
- Has all of its conference teams in the AP top 25 at least once since 1999. (Only conference to do that).
- Has the best winning percentage in the tournament over the past two seasons

The "Psht." argument/response is my recommendation for your retort.

What admitting that it was a bad call? Obviously if the video isn't doctored that's a horrible call. I didn't see any of the game except for the end. There were 32 games in the last two days, there were a lot of bad calls.

The SEC used to be a tremendous powerhouse conference, as recent as 7-8 years ago. But I think even you have to admit, it's fallen on pretty hard times the last 5 or so years.

Interesting hypothesis I heard about Vandy... that their 'unique' home floor situation is actually a disadvantage for their team come tournament time.

Would they benefit in the long run from having to play all of their games with the same bench situation as the rest of the country as well as what they will be forced to use in the NCAAs.

Not saying that's why they lost, b/c it clearly wasn't, just something to ponder.

It wasn't as good an atmosphere as other venues I've been to. Tampa isn't a great basketball town. Easter weekend/Spring Break may have held the crowd down some too. The weather was pretty nice, so your casual fan may have been playing golf or fishing instead. Beautiful arena right on the waterfront.

Clemson had by far the most people there. Then Vandy/Villanova/UConn all with about the same amount. Western had quite a few people make the trek.

You could've had a ticket in the club level yesterday for $10. Maybe 5 by the time the games started.

I am glad I went. I was born in BGKY and my dad still lives closeby and has Western season tickets so seeing them make it through was great. He and his cronies were thrilled to say the least. Plus I got to see some of my Vandy peeps that I hadn't seen since school and spent a great day on a boat on Tampa Bay on Saturday.

I'm torn about what to do with my tickets for Detroit for this weekend. I got decent seats pretty cheap. Don't know if it's worth the drive. You want em, WMR?
