ATLANTA(AP) Rapper T.I. pleaded guilty Thursday to federal weapons possession charges, and will receive a sentence that includes prison time after he completes a period of community service.

In the year that he is awaiting sentencing, T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, must complete at least 1,000 hours of a total 1,500 hours of community service, talking to youth groups about the pitfalls of guns, gangs and drugs.

Officials said after completing the community service he will be sentenced to serve about 12 months in prison.

His prison time could be increased or reduced, depending on his fulfillment of the terms of the deal and good behavior, they said.

The rapper, dressed in a gray business suit, told the judge he understands the terms of the agreement.

He pleaded guilty to possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of machine guns and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Harris was arrested Oct. 13, just blocks away and hours before he was to headline the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta.

He was charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, as well as possession of firearms by a convicted felon. He faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.

Harris was allegedly trying to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers. He initially pleaded not guilty, and has been under house arrest since he was released on $3 million bond on Oct. 26.

Harris is co-CEO of Grand Hustle Records and is one of Atlantic Records' most successful artists.

U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. must approve the deal.

Whoops.

Probably shouldn't have had all those guns, T.I.

Yikes.

What a dolt. The Feds really, really, really frown on that sort of behavior.

I guess going to a class III firearms store and just simply purchasing these through legal channels wasn't "street" enough?

Why would he need guns like that? Makes no sense.

Why would he need guns like that? Makes no sense.

Only the military or law enforcement would need guns like that.

As for T.I., he was purchasing b/c he could, and b/c he wanted them. I mean it's ATL, after all.

What was his prior felony?

What was his prior felony?

Blow.

Cocaine possession in 1997.

In 2004, he violated his probation stemming from the cocaine conviction. That led to the felony, but it was directly related to the drug charge. I have no idea what he did to violate his probation.

Can Felon's buy guns like this? I don't know.

But T.I. is a true gangsta!

What you know about that?

The correct answer is no.

Right now, T.I. is in trouble for 1, arranging to buy firearms as a felon, and 2, arranging to buy illegal firearms (as opposed to legally through a vendor/dealer). The Feds also aren't happy that Mr. Harris was buying machine guns, and silencers for those machine guns.

All I know is that I wouldn't want to be the former bodyguard for T.I. that went to the Feds and gave up T.I. to keep his own butt out of jail.

I wonder if he's ever drawn a firearm during league play?

If that is true, of course, it would violate a number of the leagues by-laws and also article 27 ...

Yeah, this isn't Nam. There are rules, but perhaps someone was over the line.

I own "guns like that", and I'm not military or law enforcement. Mine are all legal, and I'm not a felon.

Living in Cincinnati, you need those kinda weapons. Almost a requirement.

You never can have a big enough arsenal living in the Queen City.

It's illegal for a felon to have possession of any gun. I just don't see the point of him having guns like that when it would be nothing to have a hired security with you.
