Love the Muskies, absolutely pissed they're making me watch Carolina game here in Indy. Two hours from the Nati and can't watch the game. Off to a good start though, seems X's confidence gets higher with each victory.

WVU finished the half strong, they'll need to play the next 20 that tough to have a shot. These guys are going to be a force in the Big East next year, looks like they only lose one starter.

Cyclone792
03-27-2008, 10:19 PM
And speaking of Duncan, I think Xavier screwed up by not going to him on that possession. I'm also not sure I'd take him out of the game now too. I know he has four fouls, but there's 20 seconds left. When West Virginia gets a shot up, you'd think Xavier would want Duncan in there to grab a possible rebound.

OHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

JOE ALEXANDER

BuckeyeRed27
03-27-2008, 10:23 PM
Could have have taken any more time bringing the ball up there? Geez

WMR
03-27-2008, 10:24 PM
Why do players always settle for jump shots for game-winners? They'd have a much better chance of scoring if they attack the basket... look for a cutter etc. etc. A contested jump shot is the absolute worst shot to take, especially after you dribble at mid-court until only five seconds remain.

Cyclone792
03-27-2008, 10:24 PM
Could have have taken any more time bringing the ball up there? Geez

Xavier's last two offensive possessions during regulation were rather poor, IMO. Lavender taking off balance jump shots just isn't ideal.

Why is Pearl considered to be a good coach? The way I see it, he recruits athletes and then tells them to go out and play. Louisville played pretty badly in the first half and yet they still dominated UT because they have no semblance of an organized offensive attack.

I haven't seen UT play much so maybe they were just off but that was a pretty embarrassing performance.

I don't know; Louisville looks better, but not by much. Defensive minded, sloppy stuff. Fun to watch, but ugly at the same time. I really don't see Tennessee as playing bad necessarily; they've been very tough on D.

Louisville did two things in the first half that probably won't happen in the second half. One, they turned the ball over. I'd be shocked if they turn it over much more than 5-6 times the rest of the game. Two, they hit their free throws. I hope it holds up but a 5-15 second half wouldn't shock me.

Sometimes that's the best coaching a guy can do. Just let the kids play and worry about substitutions and fouls only. Pearl was great at UW-Milwaukee, taking them to the sweet 16 in 2005. He now has Tennessee at at a level its never been. He also has the clout to grab Erin Andrews whenever he wants.

He's doing a lot of things right.

Earl Clark might be Pitino's best recruit since his arrival in Louisville.

The improvement of Earl Clark throughout the season has been phenomenal. He has gone from the 6th best player on this team back in January to one of the best players in the tourney. Offensively he has been great but defensively he has been phenomenal. He erases shots and sucks in every rebound within his reach.

Louisville just dominated a team that some thought was the best in the tournament. I bet Lofton has never had so many threes blocked in a game.

Tennessee and Lofton got absolutely exposed tonight by a superb all around performance by UofL.

As a Louisville fan myself, you have to acknowledge that this game was by far not an all-around superb performance. If it weren't for the Vols' poor shooting, the UofL turnovers could have turned into something different. It was a great game, but a game that had many sloppy plays in it. They played very well in the second half that kind of makes you forget the first half.

Louisville is as much a part of the state of Kentucky as Cincinnati. Just sayin'. If it wasn't for the derby, it would be a totally foreign country relative to the rest of Kentucky.

Yeah, I'm sure the Derby is the only reason Louisville is what it is.

Going to UK, I have met people here that have the worst misconceptions about Louisville that easily makes a contradiction to your statement. Maybe Louisville isn't spoken about much in Northern KY, and that's fine. It's just like saying Southern Indiana is more Louisville than it is Indianapolis.

If a foreigner traveled to Louisville, spent significant time there, and was then given a test about the state of Kentucky based on their experiences in Louisville, they would fail miserably. I dunno what else to tell you.

Turn on ESPN.

What the hell is Bob Knight doing wearing that freaking pink sweater?!?!?!?!? :yikes:

They ask him about it earlier and he said it had to do with breast cancer. That's about all I heard.

What the hell does that mean? What more would they know by solely visiting Covington or Lexington? I don't understand what makes Louisville such a metropolitan urban city compared to the rest of the state. You know, there are different parts of the city that aren't all the same. We've got the south end, west end, and the east end; all are unique. Where I live, I've got farms, horses, the Ohio River, downtown, a freeway, and an expressway all within ten minutes of me. All depends on where you are.

The overall culture of Louisville could not be less representative of the rest of the state of Kentucky.

And that's a bad thing?

I love the Ville. One of my favorite cities in the US, and I say that with no hesitation.

Me too. It's got more vitality than a bunch of Yankee and west coast cities known for their "lifestyle choices."

Great art museum, history, and hot women.

It's like Austin without all the damn college students.

Absolutely agreed. Louisville is one of my favorite cities in the world. It ranks number one on the "places I'd move if forced to leave Cincinnati" list. People who have never spent a weekend there owe it to themselves to do so; they will be pleasantly surprised.

Substitute "state" and it holds just as well. The "rest of the state of Kentucky," as WMR put it, is hardly monolithic. If a foreigner spent a little time in Lexington gawking at horse farms and going to Keeneland, what would he know about the dirt-poor areas of Appalachia or river cities like Paducah? Are Pikeville and Owensboro the same place? Not hardly.

I have been across most of this country in the past year and I can say that most states are like Kentucky in that regard. Louisville is not Lexington is not Covington is not Bowling Green, etc. Cincinnati isn't really like the rest of Ohio either. There is a huge cultural difference just going from New York City up to Saratoga Springs and even another change if you jump on 90 and head over to Buffalo. That's what I love about this country. Each state has its own identity but even that changes in different parts of the state. Which part of Cincinnati is the real Cincinnati? What is the real Ohio, the real Indiana, the real Kentucky? I think it's probably best if we don't take any smaller part of a city or a state and project that identity on the whole.

Back to the topic. I didn't get to watch any of the games last night, just listened some over the internet while I was driving out to Kansas. I was pulling hard for X and was pretty well drained when that one was over, but I kind of got wrapped up in the UCLA W. Kentucky game during the second half when it started getting interesting. I was starting to believe for a second there that maybe we might have a Cinderella story in the making, but it was not meant to be. You have to hold out hope based on that game that X can hang with UCLA and maybe pull it out. If they're on top of their game, it could be interesting. As to the other games, I really didn't care one way or the other who won.

Exactly my sentiments. :beerme:
