View Full Version : April Fool Capers Include Rumored Taylor Teagarden trade to Cincinnati

Just heard it from Cunningham on WLW. Details about who has been traded as well as roster moves are forthcoming.

I'm a little worried about who the Reds have sent over. Any guesses? I'm hoping it's minor leaguers, unless it's Freel or something. If it is minor league players, the Reds look a lot more competitive in the Central all of a sudden.

Would Willie even know who he is? And if he did, why use him as an April Fools joke? 80% of his listeners aren't going to know who he is. You have to take everything with a huge grain of salt if it comes from WLW - especially from Willie, but using Teagarden is odd unless he was saying someone like Dunn or Jr. was traded for him.

My guess is he made it up as an April Fools joke.

Actually, I did. Apparently no one else was tuned in when I was. I still don't understand if this was a Cunningham joke or if someone confirmed it's not true or not (hence why someone else changed the title).

If Mr. Teagarden does indeed, become a Redleg, I will post a retraction.

Okay okay, I'll go ahead and come clean. APRIL FOOLS! As much as many of you dislike Cunningham, he (nor WLW) made any mention of Teagarden to the Reds.

I thought it'd be fun to post this because I didn't really see any other April Fools jokes on the board at the time. The key to a good joke is for the joke to be believable. The Reds need catching badly and Teagarden is someone the Reds could believably acquire (ie not A-Rod or something). I also decided to post the joke when I did because I figured no tasteful person on RZ actually likes to listen to Cunningham and thus, nobody would be able to validate or prove the announcement wrong. Thankfully, that ended up being true. I also played off of the fact that I still sort of feel like a newbie at RZ (even though I've been posting for almost 2 years and reading the board for a good 3) and had hoped it made me seem more credible since I don't have much of a history. Thanks to Matt for playing along after I sent him a private message. He probably could've blown my cover easily.

I was a bit disappointed by the mod who added April Fools to the thread title without any real confirmation either way though. I planned all along to announce it was April Fools at the end of the day, but it kind of spoiled the joke for those who maybe couldn't view RZ during the middle of the day. So, if I can make a suggestion...next year when April 1 rolls around, let people have fun with their jokes, at least until midnight.

Hope I fooled some of you.

doesn't it have to trick someone to make it an April Fool's joke? It also had no source other than you heard it on WLW. A fake article may have helped. You have 365 days to work on your comedic skills. ;)

I wonder how much time board members spent collectively googling or otherwise searching for other validation of what you call a joke.

I like a joke as much, if not more than most. Seldom am I very serious about anything.

But don't make me waste my time.

I think what made this somewhat less than a good April Fools Day joke is when it was called out and recognized early on as such, and yet the denials of it lasted all day?

Bill Cunningham wouldn't know Taylor Teagarden from Amy Winehouse. ;)
