Rays exercised outfielder Carl Crawford's $8.25 million option for 2009.

An easy call. The Rays also have a $10 million option on Crawford for 2010, so barring a major injury, he's not going to be a free agent for another three years. Had he not signed a long-term deal with the Rays four years ago, this would have been his walk year.

No brainer. That franchise has to hold on to the talent it has.

I think the guy is way overrated for a corner outfielder, and demonstrates how the roto-happy crowd can inflate the value of a pedestrian hitter who steals a lot of bases.

Nonetheless, in this baseball economy, 8.25 mil. isn't too bad.

I don't know why he doesn't play CF. He certainly has the speed to make up for not always getting the best reads, if that's the problem. And for a while there, it sure looked like he was about to morph into a little more of a power hitter. It didn't actually happen, but it was as if he got the credit for it, anyway.
