I don't particularly have any dogs in the fight, so I'm rooting for UNC and Memphis because I think that would make for the most entertaining final.

It will be a great day when Billy Packer no longer comments on basketball games. The man has tenure. The job is his as long as he wants it... unless Fox picks up the NCAA contract the next time it goes out for bid. ;)

Since I attended the Sweet 16 games that were here last year, I was given the opportunity to purchase tickets for the Hoop City festival that comes to town with the Final Four. The NCAA didn't see fit to offer me game tickets, though. I passed, because traffic downtown this weekend is a nightmare.

The local consensus seems to be that Kansas will win it all.

UCLA better not fall into the Memphis trap.

An IU/Duke fan rooting for UNC? That's a new one.

I cannot root for UNC for at least three reasons:

1) They don't recruit--they select.

2) If UNC wins it all, they'll have as many National Championships as IU.

3) Having lived in the Raleigh/Durham area for nearly 20 years--I recently moved back to Indiana--I can tell you that most UNC fans despise] IU, Kentucky and Louisville.

That said, the Tar Heels are on a mission, and likely will win it all

Derrick Rose will be the difference in Memphis beating UCLA tonight.

Kevin Love is not in optimal shape. He is not well-suited for the type of game Memphis is putting on UCLA.

At this pace, both teams will come close to matching the 50-45 clunker of two years ago by halftime.

Kevin Love is not in optimal shape. He is not well-suited for the type of game Memphis is putting on UCLA.

That's also my take. Also, with Shawn Taggart coming in off the bench, he gives the Tigers the potential to team with Dorsey to provide 40 solid minutes at center, something that killed Memphis two years ago.

WMR

I hate Joey Dorsey. I'm so glad Oden shut his fat mouth up last year.

His teammate makes a great play and dunks on Love, and what does Dorsey do? Points right at love as he's going back down the court.

How was that not a technical?

Derrick Rose sealed up the #1 or #2 pick in the draft with this performance. It will just depend on who ends up with the 1st pick on who gets picked 1st, Beasley or Rose.

This kid is just amazing. He has gone from being around an 8-9 pick to, like you said, either #1 or #2.

Gotta give Dorsey props, he flat-out wore Love out tonight.

Kansas is up 17 at the half. I'm not sure why, but it seems like almost every time one team get a large lead in the first half that team winds up playing tight in the second half and blowing it. It almost never fails. It's one of the more fascinating things in sports. For that reason only, I think UNC comes back to win.

I'll nver forget the 1993 elite 8 with Nick Van Excel and the Bearcats playing the Tar Hells. Cincy dominated early in the game and were up something like 17 at the half. Carolina came back to tie late in the game and then won in OT. It was a heart crushing loss.

SunDeck

KS played terribly the last 6-7 minutes. Looked very tired to me. Carolina needs not to panic if KS comes out hot again at the half. But they need to find help inside if KS pounds it in there again like they did early.

04-05-2008, 10:35 PM
Well, not even I expected it to happen this quickly. It's down to 5 points with almost 12 minutes left. Game over. I don't see how they can regroup after blowing such a lead that quickly.

I almost think getting up that much that early in the game is one of the worst things that I'd want to see happen to a team I root for. And I'm talking in big games here. Obviously, if one team is superior to another, large leads are a good thing. But when teams are both top tier team, it's like clockwork and Kansas is just one more example. They're playing about as tight as a team can play, too afraid to screw up and blow the game. The team coming from behind can play with total abandon.

And this isn't a Carlolina thing. It's any game like this. A big early lead is a kiss of death. If I bet on sports, I would have gladly laid down a nice chunk of change at halftime on Carolina.

George Foster
04-05-2008, 10:40 PM
If Bill Self loses this game, he won't be allowed back in Kansas, he will take the Oklahoma State job...if they don't change their minds.

To lose a 28 point lead in the Semi-final game is unexcusable.

They might win, but it's not quite that easy. A lot of times a team has the big run in them, but they can't maintain that fever pitch indefinitely. If they don't quite catch up before the other side stabilizes the momentum, the pendulum usually goes back the other way.

UCLA was the weakest of the Final Four teams, by far. The other three are a wash.

KU has been the most consistently great team this year. Memphis has been the most dominant. UNC played well against the toughest schedule.

I'm glad it's KU-Memphis. It should be a fast-paced, well-played matchup.

My bet is on Memphis. Derrick Rose is just too tough.
