We had an extensive discussion about Jeff Jones in the 4/4 thread. The Reds were in a bad way in the OF. Jones had played the last three seasons at Class A Cedar Rapids, with a total of 48 games at AA Waterbury. But Cesar Cedeño and Paul Householder were both on the shelf at the beginning of the season, and Jones beat out Duane Walker for the RF spot in Spring Training. (Gary Redus and Eddie Milner had locked down the other two spots in the OF.)

As for how they managed to win 74 games? Two words: Mario Soto.

That's a pretty darn good lineup for the 78 Reds. Still the Big Reds Machine except for Perez not being there. Seems like I remember this game. IIRC the Astros got off to a big lead but the BRM battled back and beat a pitcher who was at the top his game at the time in JR Richard.
