LSU reaches deal with Stanford coach Johnson

Stanford (http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/teams/page/STAN) coach Trent Johnson has reached a deal in principle to become the next head coach at LSU (http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/teams/page/LSU), a source told CBSSports.com on Wednesday morning.

An official announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.
Johnson will take over at LSU after four seasons at Stanford. He's coming off a Sweet 16, but is leaving at a good time considering he is set to lose the Lopez Twins. Plus, Johnson only had one year remaining on his contract at Stanford, where he led the Cardinal to three NCAA tournament appearances.

Hmm. I've got to digest that one a bit.

Looking at his bio, I don't see that he's got any southern connections.

Good move by LSU.

Bad move by Trent.

Looks like Mike Montgomery signed up at Cal a week too early.

I thought the same thing. But with the Lopez boys leaving... I'm not sure Stanford's going to be a great place to be.

Travis Ford and Anthony Grant... still hanging out. Sounds like Ford might head to Providence.

Ford will take over at UK after Billy G takes the Oklahoma State job. ;)

I think UK should bring back this combo.

Only if Sean can play PG again.

Bring Tubby back to be his assistant and Saul can run the 2 guard.

Eddie and Tubby as co-coaches with their sons in the backcourt? Oh, how sweet it would be!

Trent Johnson is an OK coach but I think LSU could have done a lot better. He's an upgrade from Brady but who wouldn't be? IMO, LSU will continue to be a sleeping giant and being a UK fan that's fine by me.
