Hopper to DL
TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS: Today the Reds returned from a rehabilitation assignment and reinstated from the 15-day disabled list C David Ross (lower back spasms) and placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Saturday, OF Norris Hopper (right elbow inflammation)...Ross has been on the DL all season and made 13 rehab apps at Class A Sarasota and Class AAA Louisville (7-41, .171, 6r, 1 2b, 1 3b, 1hr, 3rbi, 6bb, 16k)...Hopper is eligible to be reinstated from the DL the first day of the next homestand, on 5/5 vs the Cubs.

This will buy Javier 15 days before he is cut IMO.

I was really hoping Javy would be let go but I just knew that wouldn't happen. So does Ross ride the bench until Bako cools off or does this create a platoon situation depending on weather a lefty is pitching against the Reds?

That's the same thing Weathers has. It sounds like one of those ever so convenient DL trips, when other players come off the DL.
Hopper should be starting way more often.

I bet Ross catches for Bronson and possibly Harang and that Bako continues catching for Volquez and Cueto because of the good success he's had with them. They could probably alternate starts with Belisle/Fogg/whoever #5 starter is and that would give each of them a couple days off a week so they can try to stay healthy.

Maybe whoever was hotter, Ross w/ Harang and Arroyo or Bako w/ Volquez and Cueto, could get the start for the Fogg/Belisle starter

3 Catchers again great! If anyone they should've put Javy on the DL before Hopper.

IMO, I bet Javy is gone soon so we should be back to two catchers not too long from now.

3 CATCHERS AHHHHHHHH!:thumbdown:thumbdown:eek::eek: I will look for Jerry Narron in the dugout again tonight.

This should be interesting IMO. Bako has been playing very well and Ross couldn't hit the AAA pitching. How could one justify having him on the roster other than simply a backup C position at this point? And if that is the case then we certainly need to rid this team of Javier.
It's not a good situation when you have 3 catchers on your roster and none of them are exactly Great options!

It's disappointing for sure, as Norris could be a great ball player. That said Hairston is off to a sizzling start. Related to Bako, I don't know how you could sit him unless he needs a rest. It appears that Ross is running gingerly at the moment, hopefully he's not hurt. I tip my hat to Bako, he's been very solid.

Oh there goes the Season all right. Norris Hopper on the DL.
Gosh, this isn't like the Yankees losing A-Rod for 2 Weeks. This is Norris Hopper for Gosh Sakes...
