Reds v. Giants

Jerry Hairston RF
Corey Patterson CF
Jeff Keppinger SS
Brandon Phillips 2B
Edwin Encarnacion 3B
Joey Votto 1B
Ryan Freel LF
Paul Bako C
Edison Volquez P

v. LHP Barry Zito

Seriously. At least give Volquez a shot at winning the game. This is ridiculous. Volquez will have to throw a shutout to even get a chance at a win. He's got no room for error today.

Wowza....well, Edinson SHOULD mow these guys down. We have a speedy outfield, guess that's kinda cool. Hopefully Phillips and EE can continue their hot hitting to carry the offense.

Everyone has been slamming Dunn and Junior: they get their wish, both sit today.

KGJ is due for a day off. Why Dunn is getting a day off though doesn't make much sense. Why Dusty is not moving Votto and EdE up (when they're the hottest hitters right now) makes zero sense, though.

Yes, I will continue to say it until he's not.

Nah. It's the final audition for the 3 outfielders. You see, Bruce is going to take ALL of their jobs and play CF, RF, and LF. Dusty is just giving them these guys their curtain call.

Yes, I will continue to say it until he's not.

In 21 games, he has 5 walks and 19 strikeouts. He NEEDS to be in AAA.

I think if the Reds are going to win a series sometime this season, they should at least have to earn it.......

Yes, he's playing well and has good stats. But if he's whiffing steadily against the Scott Elartons, Bryan Bullingtons and Mike Goslings of the world, then he needs to work on that before he's thrown into the fire in the big leagues as the savior of the franchise.

Ross is obviuosly hurting, so that's why he's not in.

Zito is absolutely death on lefthand hitters, even the new and unimproved Zito.

And it's not like a lineup without Griffey and Dunn can't score. Last night, the Reds scored 10 runs without any help from those two.

I excepted Griffey to rest (day game after night game), but I am a little surprised that Dunn is sitting, even though he looks clueless up there right now.

So what if he has not walked every single game....is he working the counts?

I mean if he just hit's whatever is thrown at him (NO) then fine....he is no better than Bruce ...but that is not the case. His defense is not going to be great but just beacuse he is not walking a bunch does not mean he should not be up here.

My guess is that Griff and Dunn are sitting because Jocketty is on the verge of working out the final details of a trade with the Montreal Expos....

I for one am not bothered by Griffey and Dunn sitting. I, like others in this thread, wish that one of the OF's in their place was Jay Bruce.

Sweet, think we can pick up this guy they got from the White Sox named Gary Majewski?

04-27-2008, 02:13 PM
Ah. So the new game plan is to sit a couple of LH hitters who can actually hit LH decently but then throw in some guys who really can't hit, including one (Patterson) who can't hit LHP at all.

Super plan. Just super.

Can we have Andre Dawson (circa 1977), and Gary Carter (circa 1975)? Maybe get Randy Johnson (circa 1988) if they have run out of patience with him.

If Patterson has to be in the lineup, I don't mind him batting second. We keep hearing about what a great bunter he is; at least he's in a position where if Hairston gets on he can do something to help us, even against Zito.

I'm sure this will be considered blasphemy to even mention it--but I sure hope that as highly touted as Jay Bruce has been on this board and by other media, that he doen't flop in a Larsonesque manner once he finally gets the call.

The prospect status of Bruce and Larson aren't really in the same galaxy.

Looks like the white flag is waving against left handers. And we once again see the Freel love from a manager (I tell you, the only way to stop this is to get rid of him). Looks like a 3-1 loss to me.

If you look at the numbers for Dunn and Griffey against lefties this year, I think it becomes clear why Dusty chose today to rest them. Let's hope the Reds can finally win a series.

If you believe is splits then you have to believe that they come from somewhere... John McGraw platooned Casey Stengel, Casey Stengel platooned numerous Yankees over every season he managed.. what dummy.

Looks like a 3-1 loss to me.

One year ago today...

* REDS lose 3-1 to the Pirates. Only run was an Adam Dunn HR. Losing pitcher was Eric Milton (went to 0-4 on the year).

* REDS trade Chris Denorfia to OAK for Marcus McBeth.

WOY......the stuff Stengel did would drive these guys insane.

Hairston is 7 for 19 with 2 2B and a homer lifetime vs Zito
