The Losing Streak is over!
Cueto gets back on track with a QS and a win.
Cordero finds a new way to get a save.
Griffey thinks it's 1997.

And this one belongs to the Reds!

Boy, Cordero had a horrible breaking pitch tonight. How many did he throw in the dirt? I'll bet at least a half dozen didn't even go 60 feet. His breaking pitch wasn't even close enough to be tempting. He was very, very lucky. You can't expect to get saves with only a 98 mph fastball

The Cubs really gift wrapped this one for us but we'll take it. 5 unearned runs and an ill advised break for home in the 9th inning. He might have been safe but the throw beat him big time and he had no business trying to score there.

The Reds got every close call late as well. Fontenot was safe at home plate. The last play at 1B was real close as well. Could have gone either way. This team was due for some calls going their way.

The Brewers had him working on a 3rd pitch, but it looks like he dropped that all together.

I Tivo'd the last play, Lee was definately out at first(Why did Votto slide?)

The play at the plate was close but more because Cordero was tentative bringing the throw across the plate than anything. Fontenot should have been out from here to there.

I think I would have slid as well (to avoid possible collision with Lee).

Cordero was tentative and Fontenot slid under his tag (just barely). tough call in real time.

Not that it mattered, but I thought Lee kept his foot on the bag and had Freel in the 7th or 8th.

For all the talk of the Reds' "punting the season", it's actually Redszone that has thrown in the towel. 3+ weeks of inability to discuss the only meaningful aspect of baseball, the actual games. It's put a bigger dampener on my season than anything Dusty has, or hasn't, done.

Fontenot was out at home, even if Fontenot did get his foot around the tag which he didn't, no umpire is going to call a runner safe when the tag is down and waiting for the runner. The Votto play at IB wasn't close at all.

I don't care if Fontenot was actually safe...no umpire will actually call him safe. The throw beat him, Cordero was in position and put a tag down as he was sliding into him. You will get that call 90% of the time if you actually get the tag on him or not. Sort of like the phantom tags of second on double plays. But the umpire was in perfect position to make the call and he made it to the best of his ability without being blocked out of the play. It was his opinion of the call and he was in the right place to make the call so you can't get too upset either way. That being said he made the right call. :)

I was perusing the stats page earlier and noticed this...very promising. The power pitching story has been a breath of fresh air this year....I think there is still time for the offense to reward these guys and turn it around.

I think Stormy has a point here. I just followed this previous sentence with a large paragraph but have censored myself - out of courtesy to all of you. Thus - it has been deleted. Respectfully yours...

And this board is dead.

I found myself searching for gamethreads on the internets. Anyone know of a site that has one?

Nope. We're in punishment mode. It's apparent that any plan, if there is one, is being delayed just to show the board that judgment is nigh. I have long been an advocate of punishing those who do wrong and not punishing everyone else. This may upset some people, but I feel it is important to this site to be able to discuss the game as it is going on. It makes things more interesting for one thing, and it gives everyone a chance to see if what they're thinking is in line with public opinion or way off base. I learned about the new statistical way of looking at baseball from game threads. I have gained so much information from game threads.

No matter what happens, and I'm not being critical per se, I want a decision one way or another on the game threads. It makes no difference to me since I don't own the site and the owners can do whatever they want with it--it's their right, but just letting this thing go on for three weeks is simply ridiculous. Either there is a plan to continue the game threads or there is not. It's time for the decision to be made public regardless of how any of us feel about it.

I hope they come back because they allow all of us who miss a game to see what people--people I respect as well as those who I do not agree with--think about the Reds.

It's bad enought to have to put up with a losing team much less not having the free flow of information that a game thread supplies.

Of course this board is dead. Game threads bring the sense of community honestly, reading peoples thoughts as stuff happens.... :thumbdown

No kidding. I just want to know if us gamethreaders should find somewhere else to post or what!?

You know, I really got disgusted with the game threads and not only this year, but I missed the point. The point was the free flow of information in real time. Sure, a lot of opinions went against what I thought, and we could surely do without the personal attacks and snarky comments from those too arrogant to understand that some of us aren't as intelligent as they are. But it was my choice to give it a rest and just read. But, I miss them because we've lost the essence of what this board was all about--the sports bar feel of following a team, especially for those of us who live far away from Cincinnati and know not the particulars of what is going on every day.

With that, i'm going to bed.

The odd thing is, I remember it being quite awhile in the history of RedsZone before it had game threads. It was an idea borrowed from another team's board, as I remember.

I agree with you WV. The essence of this board has been lost. Living away from the Cincy area I can't get a feel for what really is going on with this team. I have never seen a sports board for a particular team totally ban discussing the game currently on going. I've seen game threads closed because things got out of hand but not totally banned. Actually if it wasn't for Big Klu's daily retrospective of past lineups this site would probably and eventually disappear from my internet browsing.
