Considering the double header, I have no problem with the personnel in this lineup. The order is another story, however...

Any good he does on defense is totally offset by his awful bat. We all knew Patterson was a bad hitter when he came here, but nobody could have seen him being this bad.

I didn't say he needs to be the starter out there all the time
(certainly not against lefites)... but he has merits against righties (reasonable power) in conjunction with his strong defense outweighs what the competition does.

It should be a strict platoon, Patterson should bat at the bottom of the order, and used as a defensive replacement when on the bench. When used correctly, he has abilities that the rest of the team misses. Until Bruce comes up, I see zero reason why Patterson should leave. The guys replacing him are pretty awful (especially against righties).

It's a chance to give Votto a breather and it gives Hatteberg a spot start to get a little sharper. Everybody can use a day off during the season, IMO.
