Mike Pelfrey of the Mets has a no-hitter through six innings against the Nationals. The game is scoreless after six.

Dustin McGowan of the Blue Jays also has a no-hitter through four innings but has allowed a run due to four walks.

Aaron Boone broke it up. Ever hear of that guy?

The Mets have never had a no-hitter.

They still don't.

They blame Boone.

And still haven't. Aaron Boone singles to begin the 7th.

Indians starting pitching entered today having thrown 43.1 consecutive innings of 0 ER ball. Aaron Laffey extended that streak to 50.1 innings today with seven innings of 0 ER. Looks like the Reds caught them at a bad time.

Dustin McGowan loses his no-hitter with one out in the 5th inning. I'm calling it now: Someone is going to throw a no-hitter today. There has been a bunch of pitching duels so far today and I can just feel a no-no is going to happen.

I wouldn't bet on it. ;)

I wouldn't bet on it. ;)

Andrew Miller, then?

(gotta say it so the Reds don't fall victim to some sort of weird jinx)

Belisle maybe? :) ;)
Belisle's only chance of giving up no hits is if the game is rained out.

I wouldn't bet on it. ;)

I wouldn't either with how he's been pitching lately, but he has the stuff, he just doesn't know how to pitch.

If he freakishly has things working today, with the Marlins down after last night....well who knows.

I'm still not holding my breath. :)

So here's some No-hitter tidbits:

There have been four times when two pitchers threw no-hitters on the same day, most recently on 4/27/2002 by Derek Lowe & Kevin Millwood. The first time was 104 years earlier on 4/22/1898 when Cincinnati Reds pitcher Ted Breitenstein pitched one, while Jay Hughes also pitched on.

There have also been four times that no-hitters were pitched on back to back days in the majors. Interestingly, a pitcher named Larry Corcoran was one of the pitchers who first did it in 1880 (with HOF'er Pud Galvin also pitching one) and then again two years later in 1882. On 5/5/1917 and 5/6/1917, St. Louis Browns pitchers Ernie Koob and Bob Groom pitched no-hitters.

In 1884, there were eight no-hitters, and six in 1908 and 1969. In 1990, there were seven no-hitters including 4 in June alone.

Not included now are games no longer officially considered as no-hitters by MLB (shortened games and games where a hit was allowed in extra innings).

It's been 20 years since a Reds pitcher has thrown a no-hitter but I have a feeling that streak will end in the near future. You heard it here first - one of Johnny Cueto/Edinson Volquez will throw a no-hitter this season. Both have the stuff to do it and when they're on top of their game it's nearly impossible to hit them.

Its official, Andrew Miller will throw a no hitter tonight. Javier Valentin batting 6th and playing first base. Adam Dunn will bat 7th. My brain just blew up.

I hope. There are just some things that should never happen and that is one of them.

Unfortunately you weren't kidding. I just saw the lineup on Trent's blog. The question is, is Dusty Baker serious? Does he not know that Valentin is awful against LHP? Or that he's a butcher no matter where he plays? Defense is obviously not very important to Baker.

Is that the actual lineup for tonight or are you joking? No that is the actual lineup. Our last rainout was the night Dusty decided to bat Patterson 3rd. So maybe this will be another one where Mother Nature saves us from Dusty.

Valentin's career vs LHP: .219/.293/.291/.585

Just for comparison, here is Castro's career vs. LHP: 221/.278/.304/.581

That could have been the worst Reds defense ever fielded. It's a good thing they never reached the field...I guess even God objected.
