View Full Version : Wasting a roster spot with Fogg

Can someone tell me the last time Josh Fogg played this year. I know he did not do so well, but we need to make a decision to either play him or get rid of him. The Rockies are not gonna trade for him when they know we are gonna cut him. We are gonna work our pen to death. Weathers can't play every day at 41; Burton is almost working every day as it is; Lincoln is struggling; and Bray and Affeldt are lefty specialists (and Affeldt is raking the innings up too). We need to either use Fogg a little more to see if he can work in relief at all, or cut him. We just can't waste a roster spot on him and wait for the Rockies to cave in and trade for him. We need right-handed relievers that can work because, right now, Volquez and Cueto are on pitch counts, Belisle won't be able to go over 6 unless he is spot on; and Arroyo was lights out last time (but you never know). We need one more guy to eat up innings without hurting the team. This decision needs to be made. Dusty either needs to play him, or Walt needs to send him packing. We cannot have a pitcher collecting dust in the bullpen.

I don't know wht either.... But I want to point out one thing... The Managment thought that signing Cordero and Affeldt would totally make over the bullpen... Wrong...

Although having Cordeo there to CLOSE the door is nice... The rest of the Bullpen is not very formidable...

I did check and the last time Fogg pitched was May 4...and it was bad. I think we need either let him pitch an inning or so in relief, or (if Dusty is afraid to do that) cut him loose. Our pen is struggling at times, and having another righty would help us. We can't have guys at the MLB level on our team that we are afraid to put on the field. It makes no sense.

I'd say we are also wasting a roster spot w/ Hatteberg, I can't remember the last time I saw him in a game...maybe I'm wrong, but it seems ages ago

He had 2 ABs this weekend, but I know what you mean. Hatte is a little different. I keep thinking we will do right by him and send him to the AL, so he can be a LH platoon at DH and 1B.

The Great thing about Hatte is that his Salary is a bargain, even for a backup Firstbaseman, but he hits left handed like Votto, so then again...

Bad Roster configuration...

I think we did to get rid of Josh Fogg, David Ross, Alex Gonzalez, and Corey Patterson. Our bench is a mess of people we don't need.

Fogg is awful and we should release him.

We don't need 3 catchers and I think Ross is the odd man out because Valentin is cheaper, better off the bench, can play first base, and a switch hitter.

Gonzalez days are numbered. Keppinger and Janish have proved they are better and Gonzalez is not cheap.

Patterson is a good defender but I rather have Freels bat and Hairston can step in for Freels off days.

Bottom line we have too many old guys that are not helping this team win.

I have been beating that Drum for a long long time...

The Money this team does spend could go into 1 guy, yeah 1 guy to get a Premier Player, either a Right Handed Power Hitter, or a #2 Starter.

Janish and his 5 AB's.
We already know what he can do in the field.
He's a .230 hitter, though. Adam Everett Jr.

Gonzalez has never been known for his hitting either. He has a .248 career batting average. Plus he is getting old and we are paying him 3.5 million.

At least we are not wasting a spot on Gonzalez (I am talking 25 man here) because we can move people up to take his place since he is on the DL. Fogg is just wasting away in the pen. He is wasting a spot.

we havent seen Fogg pitch for a while because we havent had a starting pitcher get blasted such as Arroyo on May 4th for a while, that is what he is on the roster for. It is pretty much to save the rest of our pen from having to pitch even more when we are completely out of a game. One reason our pen is getting worked so much is because we have really only 2 starters, Harang and Arroyo that can go longer than 6 innings as of late.

You are correct on your statement. Thats what he is for, but does Fogg have to be the innings eater. He needs to stay fresh too. You can't just throw a guy out there every 15 days and expect him to do a good job. It has been 15 days. Lincoln is struggling, Burton and Weathers have worked a lot in the last week, and Cordero is for the 9th inning only. Why wasn't he used on May 10 or 11 when Cueto went 4.2 innings or when Belisle only went 5? He could have worked 2 innings in either of those games. Or how about this scenario, cut Fogg loose and let Belisle take Fogg's spot and bring Bailey up.
I know Fogg's role in the long relief guy, but if he doesn't play but every 15-20 days, how is he supposed to stay fresh? Play him or cut him.

I wouldn't count on the Rockies being buyers for Fogg for long if they continue to struggle. Doesn't matter because we wouldn't get anything of value for him anyway, just saying.

I agree, he definitely should have got some work in those games. For now, lets hope we don't see Fogg trotting out to the mound anytime soon, because that will mean we are behind.

As far as Belisle moving and Bailey coming in, I am guessing Belisle gets a couple more starts, if he doesn't get it together some sort of move will be made, but from the reports I am hearing I have my doubts it will be Bailey. I would love seeing Maloney get a shot, as he as started to pitch much better and still only given up 1 longball

Fogg is our bullpen savior.;) When one of our starters
gets pounded in the 1.2 or 3 inning and it will happen
every now and then, you don't bring out your regular
guys and burn their arms.

They used him last night and he didn't give up 5 runs. I am glad they dusted him off. I still think we are better off bringing up Lehr in his spot for now. But if they use him and he brings that ERA down (can't go much higher), then he can help give some of our old bullpen guys some rest.

I am all for brining up Lehr and Roineke and seeing what these guys can do... Better fresh young arms with a lil Power on the BALL then Fogg throwing BP
