Nationals signed infielder Pokey Reese to a minor league contract.

It always figured that Reese would come back after his surprising retirement in March 2006, but now that he's missed 2 1/3 seasons, it's going to be awfully difficult for him to reestablish himself in the majors. The Nats picked him up because Pete Orr went on the DL at Triple-A Columbus.

Will it ever end? lol

Well there goes the chance of trading Junior to the Nats. Pokey's an untouchable.

I wonder if Bowden would bite on that.....Junior......nah. He will probably wait until the offseason.

Maybe we'll have a Gookie sighting soon too.

Good night. Pokey Reese. Wow. Just wow. Are they really that desperate?

it's wierd and yet Pokey was the best defensive 2B in baseball while he was playing. If he was going to sign anywhere...

What's the over/under on Pokey quitting again? Two weeks? Two months?

You just can't make this stuff up.

Dennys anyone?

(I mean Reyes, not the Grand-Slam breakfast place.)

I think Bowden is even going to fake-offer the manager's job to Ron Oester and then give it to Bob Boone instead.

Over/Under on how many weeks until Pokey is up in the bigs?

The Washington Nationals didn't win when they were the Cincinnati Reds, why would anyone expect them to now?

What is Jimbo gonna do when all his ex-Reds are retired?

Hmmm... There is still time for Jimbo to bring the Mayor 'home' to Washington as well. I'm sure the Red Sox would deal him Casey if he'd give Theo a quick call.

He's already got Barry in the front office with him, right? I wonder if Barry is getting in shape to become the Nats player-manager?

Who's next?

I expect Ruben Mateo, Deion Sanders, Hector Mercado and Osvaldo Fernandez to be signed any day now.

Personally, I have no idea why Scott Sullivan isn't a Nat right this minute.

I am surprised the new Nationals stadium did not have dimensions of 300/340/380/340/300......beacuse high scoring offenses who can out homer the other team wins championships.

FWIT, Denny Reyes is a pretty good LOOGY, been pitching for Minny the last 3 years.

Mike Frank, Pat Watkins and Gabe White should get Nat contracts soon...

Even more reason for him to be the national spokesman of Dennys restaurant (instead of the dude from Sopranos). I mean, in addition to being a fat guy which is their target audience, his freakin' first name is Dennys. Just too perfect, both sides are missing a golden opportunity.

Oh, and I'll take a Grand Slam with three eggs over easy, toast, bacon, sausage and some a 'dem dare hash browns.

Dennys Reyes has the fattest face I've ever seen. I bet the man can pound down some Grand Slam breakfasts. Did I mention he should do commercials for 24/7 Dennys?

Nationals sign infielder Reese
05/24/2008 7:56 PM ET
By Bill Ladson / MLB.com

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals signed infielder Pokey Reese to a Minor League contract on Saturday. He will report to Triple-A Columbus.

Reese, 34, is a veteran who played in the Major Leagues for eight seasons. The last time he played in the big leagues was in 2004, when he was a member of the Red Sox. He is best remembered for being the everyday second baseman for the Reds, when current Nationals general manager Jim Bowden held the same title in Cincinnati.

The Nationals signed Reese because Columbus is short on infielders since Pete Orr went on the disabled list and Bret Boone retired.

"He was signed to help [our] Triple-A depth," Bowden said. "All our Major League injuries have hurt our depth at Triple-A. We do not want to rush prospects from Double-A and hurt their development, so he is there to fill out the roster. Also, [his] defense up the middle in Triple-A is important to develop young pitchers like Collin Balester."

I just found out Charlie Manning is in the Nats bullpen. Wow, Jim, wow. If they still had Claussen they could have the entire trade Kullman made.

The most amazing thing is the fact that Jimbo is still employed. Gumby or Pokey

People like to make fun of Jim (alot if it very funny) but he is the best GM that the Reds have had in many fans adult lifetime.

Brandon Larson was on the Nationals or at least their AAA team last year too, I believe. Now he was some quality AAA filler.

I'm guessing that they sign Willie Greene, Dante Bichette, and Scott Williamson.
