Rose hitting 3rd? Concepcion leading off? What's Sparky thinking? It worked so he's a genius.

Rose hitting 3rd? Concepcion leading off? What's Sparky thinking? It worked so he's a genius.

I was wondering about that, too. However, the 1973 team had a lot of holes in their lineup. Rose, Morgan, and Bench were All-Stars, Perez should have been, and Concepcion had a breakthrough season (though it would be cut short by injury), but everyone else was an offensive black hole. I suspect that moving Concepcion up was a way to move Tolan down--he had a Corey Patterson-type season in '73.
