What is heck is the obsession with hobbits and Harry Potter anyway? I have always wondered that.

Some folks dig fantasy... not me though, I skipped the genre completely, in fact I didn't see Star Wars until 10 years after it came out.

BUT... I did read the Hobbit about 5 years ago and that was a good little book (note the key word in that sentence is "little" a concept that eluded Mr. Tolkien for the rest of his career.)

I guess so. I tried to read one of the HP books to my class once. I had to stop.

Oops...with all of the discussion about football coaches, I thought this thread was about Lou Holtz.

Please carry on.

Is that good or bad?

Gone With the Wind had two Directors.

Fantasy never was my cup of tea, but I did enjoy Tolkien's books and I thought the film adaptations were decent as well. If this one is done as well as those were, I'm looking forward to it.

Hard to say. I'd like to see Peter Jackson step in and take up the directing helm now.

I liked the hobbit more than the trilogy which I felt was little long winded. Didn't care for the movies that much, they seemed to get worse after the first. They were very well made though and I had thought that they made a good choice with the pick of director for the hobbit. Too bad he quit.

wow. i'm disappointed. i love Del Toro.

i know he has several other projects in the pipeline & i read that the reason he is not directing the Hobbit is due to these.

the good news: maybe he'll get started sooner on his adaption of H P Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness".

Same here. I couldn't put the Hobbit down, but found it laborious trying to get through the trilogy.

Wonder how well parts of The Silmarillian would do in a film format.

That, I would love to see.

In fact, if it didn't get warped and twisted (leave the sex out of it, please), it could be a great AMC series.

Peter Jackson to Direct The Hobbit

I figured once Del Torro couldn't do it that Jackson would. This is good news.
