Ravin is working 91-95 MPH with his fastball. Has shown a good curveball as well. Just struck out the #2 hitter with his curve.

Is it coming free and easy? Has he filled out completely?

Ravin has allowed 2 runs here in the 2nd, but he has allowed nothing hit hard. Grounders just barely making their way through (if Cozart is playing tonight the inning is over with just 1 run). Dayton has 3 errors already.

How is Ravin looking to you?

better than I thought from the reports. I thought he was all fb with no control and not much off speed. but his curve looks to have the ability to be a plus pitch at some point and his change can be a solid 3 pitch. I also like his change in velocity. He'll throw 90-91 then hit 94-95. If he can work on some command with the fb and control with the curve we migth have something

Chris Dickerson is on a legitimate hot streak at the plate. Has two hits tonight. Maybe his bat is starting to come around. He would be an excellent defensive-oriented reserve outfielder for the Reds. And he hits lefty so he'll fit right in.

That's the thing that worries about him...he just loses it completely when he does...hopefully that's a concentration thing or a small mechanical change he makes that he can be coached out of

Valaika is saying "Gordon Beckham who?"

Valaika's' offense is off the charts this year. (Kind of like two years ago in Billings.) He tore it up at Sarasota (in a league everyone says favors pitchers) then got called up to Chattanooga and struggled for a while... and is now tearing it up at Chattanooga. I am starting to think he might be our SS of the future.

Can anyone tell me how he is playing defensively this year? I know most have projected him as a 2B once he gets to the bigs, but is he proving anyone wrong with the glove this year? Hopefully he is, because looking at his overall numbers since he turned pro two years ago, there is no question he can hit.
