Kid is only 21 I guess he needs a day off. Guess who's in center and leading off for your Cincinnati Reds. You got it, Corey Patterson. Baker is killing me, I'll take Bruce in his worst slump over Patterson anyday. I guess since Pattersin hit a homer the other night Baker must think he's swinging a hot bat!

Bruce might need a day off -- I don't know. But the way the Reds are hitting, we need him in the line-up.

Even though Bruce is 21 he still needs a day off everyonce in awhile. Maybe not physically but mentally.

Our guys seem to need more rest than players on other teams.

I hope Patterson is booed loudly and constantly every time at the plate, and that the crowd shuns him even if he hits four home runs. He's a symptom of the area where this team is weaker than any other team in MLB-- field management.

Any lineup w/Corey Patterson might as well be this:

Good. I can make other plans tonight. No Bruce + no Volquez + no Keppinger + no Hairston = no reason to watch.

Here's my guess for CPatt's night:

1st PA: 2 pitches - Fly out to CF.
2nd PA: 2 pitches - Fly out to RF.
3rd PA: 1 pitch - Ground out to SS.
4th PA: 4 pitches - Strike out swinging.

Yay for leadoff!!

Yeah, no way Corey sees 9 pitches in 4 at-bats. I'd say 6 max.

He got it!

Wonder why Dusty would shake things up after we ripped the cover off of the ball the last two nights?

The Hairston injury hurt worse than people want to admit.

You're giving him way too much credit. You have to include swings and misses. There will be plenty of those.

Yeah, because after the game last night, I was really thinking, "man, the Reds really need to get THE WORST HITTER ON THE TEAM back into the lineup and make sure he gets as many at-bats as anyone, if not more".

06-12-2008, 06:14 PM
Everyone seems to be fighting for that WORST REDS HITTER title lately. Nobody in our lineup is hitting well enough right now that they cannot be taken out of the lineup. He tried batting the savior first for 2 games and it was a disaster. You don't think Dusty would rather have Bruce ignite this offense for 4 or 5 runs the past two nights and keep penciling him in that leadoff spot while Patterson gets splinters? I know he would, but hell if he would have run the same lineup out there as the past 2 nights that have given us nothing you guys would be all over him then also.

My thoughts exactly. I'm sure he'll whiff on the 1st pitch all of those at-bats.

I just want to repeat this:

When Bruce got called up, and Patterson went down to AAA... This team started winning...

When Patterson was recalled, thats when the FUNK resurfaced...

You can bat someone other than the centerfielder or shortstop at the leadoff spot!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!

Good. I'm going Saturday night, and if Patterson plays tonight, more than likely he won't be playing Saturday.

I'm going on Sunday and I was thinking the exact same thing. Now if I could convince them to rearrange the rotation so I don't have to watch Bailey matched up against Beckett, I'd feel much better.

Patterson/Janish/Griffey, I'm not sure any team in MLB has ran out a worse top of the order.

Add to that the worst cleanup hitter in baseball in Brandon Phillips. OBP of .316. I think drawing names out of hat would honestly be better than Dusty's lineups.

I just did a random sequence generator and got this: (the numbers indicate where they are batting tonight)

7 Encarnacion
3 Griffey
5 Dunn
4 Phillips
2 Janish
8 Catcher
6 Votto
1 Patterson

I think that's better than Dusty's.

Even the generator knows that Patterson belongs at the bottom of the lineup, if he plays at all. Maybe Dusty should invest in one of those. Tell him its how the Dodgers did it.

Right. Because Dusty knew the Cards would score just 2 runs tonight, so its okay to not play your best players and put your worst ones in a good position.

Exactly. One game is definitely a good sample size.

Anyone who seriously has no problem with Pudderson leading off needs their head checked.

I would rather see Bruce leading off also. I just thought maybe we could wait and actually watch the game and see how it plays out before we wave the white flag which was literally already done in this post. I think you all seriously think wins and losses are determined by which team sends out the best on paper lineup at 7:04pm.

Never said I don't have a problem with Patterson leading off. I have lots of problems with the lineup used tonight. But I don't whine about it since I don't think the lineup really matters, especially one batter.
As evidence, the Reds are 15-14 with Patterson starting, and 16-22 without him in the lineup. Starting him is not a smart move, but clearly not the reason why the Reds have a losing record.

Maybe Defense is a bigger part of the game then some people think. With that being said Corry Patterson should NOT be on a Major League roster.
