Wily Mo and the Nats have mutual options for 09- $2 mil if WMP exercises and $5 mil if the Nats do. If he does not go back, should the Reds look to bring him back?

No walk rate. No on-base percentage. No defense. No interest.

With that m.o. couldn't he bat leadoff?

But he can hit the ball really hard. Let's bring him back.

Not.

I like his name, but they can keep his bat, glove and salary.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'd love the gamble of bringing back Willy Mo. He a RH slugger who always plays better given more time. He's still relatively young and could blossom. The talent is still there.

As a RF, Pena could be a treat.

Understand, I'd have a pretty solid back-up plan in place should he fail miserably.

If it means never seeing Corey Patterson again (and/or never seeing Patterson/Janish as the first two hitters in the lineup)... sign me up.

Honestly, we could do worse for a backup OF and we obviously need guys who can hit LH pitching. Next year I would be on board with it. Wily Mo is going to have one good year in MLB eventually. OK maybe not. But again, if it means no Corey Patterson I would do it right now. Maybe dumb Bowden would have flashbacks to Patterson's days as a top prospect and would do the trade.

only if his contract can be reworked

Why do we need Pena? We could just call up Juan Fransisco....

With all due respect, WMP's best OF position is CF....

Sometimes I miss the never-ending adventure that is/was Wily Mo Pena.

From what I hear Wily Mo rocks but I'd rather not have him. Now if you gave me a choice between Wily Mo and Corey Patterson I'd take Wily Mo.

Its easy to forget because he's been around for so long - but Pena will be 27 next year - that's still quite young.

He's still amazingly raw - but as a PH off the bench, you could do much, much worse.

Put him in right, Griffey back in center and Dunn in left - there is a dream outfield.

True. But my grandma never had balls bounce off her head in the OF. :p:

Yeah, they should have invited him back for this weekend, just to party with both his old teams. I kind of miss him sometimes, for the entertainment value.

If we decide to start a beer league softball team I think he'd make a great edition.

I'd take him as a 1 million/year backup OF, but that's about it.

The Reds are potentially going to be very thin in the OF next year, so it's likely
we are going to have to bottom feed a little bit to fill the roster.

I would bring him in on (irony of ironies) a minor league deal with a promise to offer him his release if he was not on the major league squad by July 1.

I would be surprised if he doesn't exercise his option with the Nats unless he raises his slugging alot higher than the sub .300 level he is at now.

He's definitely a bottom feeder. Can we call him Carp Pena?

We're trying to clean these types of players off this team as it is. He's shown the world what he ain't. He's terrible in the field, and offensively is severely on base challenged. So every once in a blue moon he'll display his prowess with a stadium leaving HR that makes the fans go eww and ahhh.

Let him continue to be Bowden's problem. Not the direction we need to be going, nor wasting a roster spot on.

Adam Dunn has something to brag about. After watching Wily Mo Pena this weekend, I think it is now official Wily Mo Pena is the WORST outfielder in the National League. Holy Smokes, has anyone else seen the butcher job he has been pulling this weekend? Jason Larue was a better leftfielder.

That is pretty comical. Amongst all that RZ love for Wily Mo was this calming voice of reason from Registerthis:

On the flipside, while I don't think Arroyo is this team's answer for its pitching needs, I think people have a serious tendency to overvalue WMP. He's got all the raw talent in the world, but unrefined talent is worthless. While i would have rather seen the reds get more of a groundball pitcher--or one with a higher K rate--a pitcher in the neighborhood of Arroyo is about where WMP's value currently sits.

Cheaper option in LF then Dunn...does he hit HR's anymore?

I don't think he is anything to look at...sad, he is the Reds version of Corey Patterson for the Cubs...and now we have him.
