Heyman's Latest: Griffey, Garcia, Sabathia
SI.com's Jon Heyman has a new column up.

Ken Griffey Jr. is reportedly telling friends that the Rays are his preference if he is to be traded. He'd be close to his Orlando home, always a major consideration for him. Heyman says Junior would prefer to be dealt after the All-Star game. It's not known whether the Rays have interest in Griffey, though.
Freddy Garcia hit 85 mph in a recent session. It's been suggested he could be in the Majors by late August.
Heyman talked to a "hopeful competing GM" who expects C.C. Sabathia to be traded.

Who are noted prospects of theirs that the Reds should target in a trade?

Jr for Price. Straight up. **I know this would NEVER happen**

Just wishful thinking....

griff for edwin jackson. seems pretty fair to me, might have to throw a decent prospect in or eat some of jrs salary.

Why would they want him? Nothing against him but he doesn't bring much to a winning ball club these days. I guess they could put him at DH.

Since I can't start my own thread...

Glavine looks to be out until after the All-Star break if not longer. With Smoltz already down, I think at this point Arroyo's value to the braves who have had serious intrest in him has to be at an all time high... They have some top end pitching prospects at AA. I would think we could pry one away for him...

Just a though.

Ken Griffey, Jr is considering waiving his no trade clause for a trade to Tampa Bay. I am looking for a link now.

What would we get from Tampa Bay that would help the team we have right now? Do we need to add more youngsters to this already very young group or do we got for a few veterans that might have some helpful sage advice?

I think we'd deal him for a young player and during the offseason package a few together for a guy with a track record.

It really would be the best thing for all parties involved.

The only thing that Griffey will bring us in trade is salary relief.

Griffs agent has denied any of this going on, which likely means he moves next week? I have gone to many, many Durham Bulls games , and think Tampa has some great talent down in the system we could land in a trade, if it were to happen.

At this point why would the Rays want him or be willing to give up anything for him? It is not like he would help them win.

Would his knee even pass a physical?

I would love to see Griffey go to TB so that he could get his shot at the post season and the Reds finally put someone else in the #3 spot in the order, the problem is I cannot see a single reason why TB would want Griffey much less give up anything of value to get him.

Gosh I don't know. Perhaps the fact that he is on a MAJOR LEAGUE roster currently might give us a clue as to whether he can pass a physical.

Sorry to say, but at this point all Griffey can bring us in a trade is a bag of circus peanuts.
